Transition Treats
Students from Mesa Ridge High School's Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Engineering Design and Development (EDD) class, led by Nat Sobin, designed and built a mobile coffee cart for the district transition program. Widefield School District 3’s Transition Link Services is working to enhance transitional opportunities for students with disabilities. One aspect of this is through positive work and hands-on learning experiences. Transition Treats seeks to teach effective entrepreneurial skills, increase self-confidence and employ post-transition ready adults who can thrive in a variety of employment settings. Running a coffee cart provides the opportunity for students to start small, create changes as needed, and develop new ideas to meet their customers' needs. The transition students are eager to work and more importantly eager to learn in order to be successful!
Emergency Room Design
Students in the Biomedical Innovations capstone class at Widefield High School got an up close and personal look at an emergency room (ER) this week. The students visited the UCHealth Memorial Emergency Room to view the layout and learn the functions of an ER. The students are designing an ER that attempts to solve some of the current problems that occur in an actual hospital. Students have to think about the floor plan, wait times, patient privacy, staffing, and medical innovations. This is a great hands-on experience and opportunity for our students.

Progress Update: Home Build Project
The students in the Careers in Construction program at the MiLL are making progress on the home build project they started in late spring. The first wall of the home went up this week and more walls will go up next week. The home will eventually be moved off-campus and sold by CICC, allowing students the opportunity to see the full completion of a construction project on a larger scale. Students have already assembled scale balsa wood models as a physical representation of the home they will build this semester. The finished home is 44’ by 27’ and is built in two sections. The floor plan is 1200 square feet with three bedrooms and one bathroom.
