## Careers

This week we will be finishing up or Crime Scene Investigator Unit. The final assessment for this unit will be the students having to do a rough sketch of a staged crime scene. The students will have a checklist of everything they need to have in their sketch. We have been working on all the features in class, and the students have done rather well. This unit has been exciting and the students have done a great job of problem solving.

## Technology (Robtoics, STEM and Design and Modeling)

Design and modeling- Students learned how to do multi-view drawings and isometric (3d) drawings in class. Today students took a quiz over the different drawings and will have time on Tuesday to finish their quiz. Next week we will be starting our puzzle cube project

STEM- Students this week tested their scale models of their towers. Ask them how much weight their tower held. After testing students are now tasked to make a tower that is at least 7 inches tall an 4 inches wide. This project is due by the end of class on Wednesday so we can test how strong their tower is on Thursday.

Robotics- Students are challenged to make a dragster out of our vex pieces. With this projects students will learn how to program their robot to race 20 feet and stop as close to the finish line as they can

## Math Strategies

In eighth grade, we will be calculating slope of a line from two coordinate points next week.

For seventh grade, we will be adding and subtracting integers next week.

Sixth graders will be working with the formula for finding distance using rate and time, d=rt.

## 6th-8th Multimedia

6th Multimedia - Students have been working on getting familiar with the Scratch website that we are going to use for our next 2 coding projects. We did start our Animation Project in Scratch that will be due on November 15th. Ask your student to show you what they have started to create. They should be able to log in at home to share that with you!

7th & 8th Multimedia - Students this week have been finishing up their Google SketchUp housing design. Today (Friday the 8th) was their last day to work on it in class. If they need to work on it from home to finish they will need to use the link in Schoology to work in the online version. Next week I will explain how they will record their video tour of their housing design. Then on Wednesday of next week we will start working with Scratch.mit.edu which is a site where they will be coding for the next 2 projects we have coming up.

Please make sure your student will have their own earbuds/headphones available to use daily in my class.

## Oct. 29th

We're in the beginnings of learning repertoire for our next concert, a time of high anxiety for all middle school orchestra students. They forget that we repeat this cycle for each cocnert. In the beginning the music is way too hard. Then, it's just too hard. Then it's just hard. Then it's not so hard. Then it's easy. Then it's too easy. Concert. Repeat for the next concert. If your daughter or son says the music is too hard. Remind them that hard is good and that it will get easier.
