Hello RHK8 Families,
Happy 2019! Following the winter break we sure enjoyed having everyone back in school, working hard, and learning. This week our students K-8 started preparations for the upcoming rhythms performance, scheduled for February 1, which is an annual tradition that brings our whole student community together. Here's the News for this week.
RHK8 Capital Bond Update
On December 17, the BSD School Board decided not to continue with the original construction plans (i.e. four added classrooms to replace portables, changing bus drop off and parking). Instead, the Board decided to set aside the $10 million for now and save it for the potential construction of a brand new school building on our RHK8 site during the next Capital Bond cycle. The District will share more information about this through the BSD Briefs on Monday.
Volunteer and Visitor Reminders
We want to remind everyone of the expectations for entering and exiting the school. The office is open from 7:30-4:00. The front entrance and the door at the parent drop off area are open from 8:10-8:30 as students arrive. During the school day all parents, volunteers, and visitors must enter through the office and sign in upon entry. All volunteers sign in on the volunteer computer and all visitors must sign in on visitor sign in sheet. In addition to signing in, each person must verbally check in with one of our office staff and have a name tag to exit from the office into the school building. Thank you for helping us to have a safe and welcoming school for our students and families.

Office Hours
Elementary school office hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This change is due to continued monitoring of after hour needs over the course of the last several months, input from secretaries and principals, assurances of appropriate supervision for after school activities and communication continuing to improve for transportation needs.
Arrival, Departure, Transportation, and Parent Drop Off and Pick Up
Before and after school, staff is at key spots so they can greet students and ensure a safe arrival and departure. Starting at 8:10 our doors open for students and families to enter, with K-5 students starting in the cafeteria and then outside, and middle school students starting in the library. At 3:05 p.m. when school is dismissed, students are escorted to their buses, to parents, or we send them on their walk home. Our buses drop off and pick up students in the front loop of the school and from 8:10-8:30 and 2:55-3:20 this area is exclusively for buses. Our parent drop off and pick up is the lower east side loop. You can access a map of this here.’’
Additionally, please keep in mind that if you arrive late to pick up your child, you will need to come into the school office. We do not allow students to wait outside alone after the dismissal process concludes. Also, we will not release students to individuals without a note or to those who have not been previously designated by you in your student’s contact list.
If your child is going home a different way than their normal route please let the front office know as soon as possible.
