Message From The Principal

Happy Friday Eagle families,

Today is the last day of credit #4. We have only 19 school days remaining. Most seniors should have met with their coach this week to review their graduation plan, their current grades and what remains to be completed for graduation on June 3. Some seniors will not graduate in June and while others are at risk of not doing so. If there is a chance a student will not graduate in June, they should register for summer school. The deadline to register is May 20. See information below.

Juniors should also be reviewing their graduation status. If they are deficient in credits to graduate from Rancho for next year, they should also register for summer school. Summer is a great time to complete a credit recovery class or two. If you have questions regarding your graduation status or your need to attend summer school, please contact our counselor, Ms. Rice, ASAP.

We will be renewing our Career Speaker series this week. Please check Monday Coaching Class announcements or see Miss Cammie in the library for dates and times. We have scheduled a firefighter and a nurse to share information about their careers. We also have representatives from MSJC coming to share information about their programs. These are terrific opportunities to think about what happens after leaving Rancho.

Think different. Be different.

Mental Health Awareness Month – May

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The vision of a nation where anyone affected by mental illness can get the appropriate support and quality of care to live healthy, fulfilling lives in communities where no one feels alone in their struggle. We are experiencing a shift in public perception of mental health. Resources are available and people are encouraged to seek support.

Anyone can have a mental illness just as they can have a physical illness. No one asks for either one. We need to show compassion for people living with mental illness just as we would for people with cancer, diabetes, or heart disease.

May is a time to raise awareness of those living with mental or behavioral health issues and to help reduce the stigma so many experience. Stigma is a barrier to accessing mental healthcare. Not only does mental illness cause pain, distress, and loss, but it can trigger a social reaction — prejudice — which is as limiting as the condition itself. People with mental illness have said that stigma, how people judge them, is a barrier to a full life. Reducing stigma encourages people to seek the help they need for what we know are treatable conditions – and can result in significant improvements in individual and family lives.

Some ways to reduce stigma:

  • Educate yourself and others.
  • Be conscious of language.
  • Get treatment.
  • Don’t isolate yourself.
  • Don’t let stigma create self-doubt and shame.
  • Join a support group.

Student Of The Week

Enrique De La Luz

Enrique is an incredibly hard worker in my class. He comes to school each day with such a positive attitude as well. He lives far from school and takes the bus to get to and from each day. In addition, he works at Popeyes after school and doesn't get home until late at night. He has an incredible work ethic and this will serve him well in life!
