Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Conferences
Thanks for attending the 3-way conferences this week. The teachers have spent a lot of time preparing for these so that you receive an up-to-date picture of how your child is going at school. Please do remember that if you have gone away with any questions or areas you feel may have been unanswered, please contact your child’s class teacher via email (see diary or the GS School App for contact info). If you require information about Music, PE or Mandarin, please also contact your child’s teacher.
Half-Term Holidays
Happy Mid Autumn Festival!
Falling on the 15th day of the 8th month according to the Chinese lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the second largest festival in China after the Chinese New Year. It takes its name from the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season. In order to celebrate this traditional festival students have been listening to stories and watching videos to understand the reasons for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. Year 1 and Year 2 students have produced lanterns and students in Year 3 to Year 6 students have been making moon cakes. If you are new to Hong Kong - check out what to do to celebrate mid Autumn festival by clicking on this link. Students will also be learning about the festival over the next couple of weeks in their Mandarin lessons. As a reminder school will be closed all of next week.
Professional Development Day on Friday 29 October (School closed for students)
On this day the school staff will be exploring further, the detailed procedures for Child Safeguarding and Child Protection (CP) which are outlined in ESF Policy. For your information, the Child Protection Officers in the school are Jennine Harding (Leader of Individual Needs) and myself (Brenda). We will both be attending a 3-day workshop after mid-term to become fully aware of best practices around the world in this very important area. The policy is currently being tweaked by the ESF Child Protection Group so I will share this with you when it has been fully reviewed.
Come to our GS fashion show, featuring some of our students modelling our new school uniform. Have wine and nibbles with the community and support the PTA by attending the AGM. Keep this date free in your diary, Thursday 12th October, it’s always a great night!
Book week (a mini one this year) will take place from 25-27 October. Our annual Book Week Character Parade will take place in the playground on Friday 27 October at 8.30am. Parents and caregivers are welcome. Start thinking about costumes!
Regards
Brenda

Save the Date – Glenealy School Fair
Be sure to mark your calendar for the School Fair on 10th November at 5:00pm. Join us for an evening of international food, carnival games and much more.
Each year at the Fair we have a small number of vendors offering child and family-focused products for sale. If you are interested in taking a table, please find the Vendor Application Form here or send your enquiry to Erika at pta@glenealy.net.
We will also have a 2nd hand book stall at the Fair. If half-term looks like a good time for a clear-out, remember to set aside your book donations. Watch the newsletter for collection information nearer the time.
Top Tech Tip
Typing is a great skill to learn and it is a lot of fun too. If you would like to practice typing, simply go to our Glenealy Globe and log in to our Library page.
We have two typing programs than can be accessed, Kidstype and Big Brown Bear. Both offer different skill levels and challenges. Don’t forget to turn up the volume, as they sound like old-fashioned typewriters!
Happy typing!
