Waiver Request for Remote Learning at Fire-Damaged Southern Middle
The board voted unanimously to request an emergency waiver from the Kentucky Board of Education to continue remote instruction at Southern Middle School. This will allow for continued attendance-based virtual learning while crews repair the building, which suffered fire, water, and smoke damage on March 2.
Superintendent's Report
1. Director of Multilingual Services Rose Santiago and instructional specialist Page Harman shared updates on services provided to English learners (EL), student demographics, testing data, and support for teachers.
2. Director of Assessment Brooke Stinson outlined this spring's state testing schedule for the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA). Currently, the main window is May 8-26, which is within the last 14 instructional days of school. Stinson also explained which students are required to test and the subject areas for each grade level. Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services Meocha Williams noted we are 33 days out from the KSA and emphasized the importance of clear goals.

What is a School Board Planning Session?
The Fayette County Board of Education routinely meets twice a month, generally on the second and fourth Monday. The planning work session is an opportunity to receive extended presentations, review the agenda for the upcoming action meeting, and provide time for board members to ask questions and hold discussions with staff. The action meeting is when the board votes on proposals.
