Chinese Culture in Canada
Because Canada was still forming, the government advertised for immigrants to come and work here. The Chinese people started coming to Canada in the 1800s because there were jobs here and a chance to settle land. Many men worked on the CP rail as well. Now, there is a large population of Chinese Canadian people. Almost every large city in Canada has a Chinatown. Chinese food, traditions, and art influence our culture.

Chinese Culture
There aren't many pictures of Chinese people in the encyclopedia when the CP rail was being made. However, the railway was built mostly by Chinese people! 17 000 Chinese men came from China to work on the railway. Many died because they were given the most dangerous jobs. They were paid only $1 a day and still had to pay for their food and lodging with that money. The white workers didn't have to pay for that! They couldn't afford fruit and vegetables so many got sick with scurvy. 1000 Chinese men died in the making of the railroad.
