Health Office Information for Families
Fast FAQ: How does District 203 handle lice concerns?
District 203 follows evidence-based treatment guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control, and National Association of School Nurses.
• For live lice or nits, parent/guardian will receive same day contact by telephone, and educational material sent home with child.
• Parent education material may be periodically sent home in the case of a relatively high percentage of students presenting with head lice/nits in the classroom.
• The child should be rechecked upon entrance to school the next day and rechecked in 7-10 days.
• Re-admittance to the classroom the next day if no treatment or insufficient treatment has been given should be left to the discretion of the certified school nurse.
• Confidentiality will be maintained.

Reminders
Parent Input 2020-2021
Each school year I write to invite you to provide input on your student’s class assignment for the following year. While we stay focused on the current school year, we must also begin making plans for next school year. This includes ordering materials, prioritizing summer improvements to our facility, hiring staff as needed and much, much more. Believe it or not, our teachers will soon begin the process of class groupings for the 2020-2021 school year. A number of aspects are considered as each child is placed in a classroom grouping. Taken into account are factors such as learning styles, academic strengths and challenges, independent learning skills, social relationships and behavioral patterns. Every effort is made to ensure that your child is placed in an environment where we believe he/she will achieve academic, social and personal success. As mentioned above, parent input is considered when determining classroom placements each school year. Each year, we receive approximately twenty letters per grade level. The letters are read carefully and taken into consideration as class assignments are determined. Requests for a specific teacher will not be honored. If you are interested in providing input for your student’s classroom placement next school year, please do so in writing by following these steps: Print and complete the form linked here (spn) or see your child's backpack.
- Describe your perspective on your child’s learning style (how they learn best).
- Include any other information that you want considered in the decision about classroom placement.
- Include your signature as parent/guardian.
- Return by March 9th. *Forms received after this date will not be considered as groupings for 2020-2021 will have already begun. Information received/shared from previous school years will not carry over to the next school year. If you shared something with us last year and you want this same information noted, please share again by completing a new form.
Parking Reminders near Elmwood
Please be aware and courteous to our neighbors surrounding Elmwood during pickup and drop-off times. We ask that you do not park in such a way that you block homes’ driveways and pause our pick up lane to grant access to our neighbors and their driveways during pick up time. On Sycamore Drive there is a family that requires access to their driveway around dismissal time. This family is asking for your help in allowing easy access in front of their home. Please be courteous to our neighbors. Thank you for your help!
February Box Tops Blitz Contest
It’s time for another Box Tops classroom contest! From now through 2/27/2020, we’ll see which classroom can earn the most Box Tops – combination of digital Box Tops App and Traditional Clips will count. When using the Box Tops App, select “Give Credit” when scanning your receipt to type your teacher name in. When sending your traditional cardboard clips in, please write your teacher’s name on the envelope or baggie. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents and add up quickly to real cash for Elmwood! Feel free to ask grandparents and neighbors to help out too!
McTeacher Night
Mark your calendars for one of our most popular fundraiser events - McTeacher Night will be February 18. The eagle mascot and representatives from our music program will be there too!
Elmwood STEMFair - March 4th (Registration Due February 20th)
GAME ON! This is the event you have all been waiting for! Everyone has a passion and something to share with others. What gets your wheels spinning? Are you always asking questions like “How does that work?”? Do you have mad coding skills or can engineer a Lego vehicle with a mechanical arm? Do you have a passion for math and want to teach others how we see it and use it in everyday life? We imagine, create, test and change until finally things become finished products using science, technology, engineering, and math! Even after all of that, we continue to find ways to improve these items using STEM. All projects are welcome, so get creative! The Game On theme is optional. All students are encouraged to bring their projects, complete or incomplete, to the fair to share successes, failures, lessons learned, and more. Come on out to support all of the Elmwood scientists, techies, engineers, mathemeticians and more! On March 4th, project setup begins at 5:00 pm with the Fair opening at 6:00 pm to view projects. At 7:00 pm we will have hands on activities and fun.
Attendance Works - Some Helpful Hints & Reminders Flyer
Every winter, bad weather — snow, slush, freezing temperatures or even heavy rains in warmer climates — can present challenges to getting children to school. So do the colds, fevers and earaches that often come with the winter months.
Reading Incentives
Ready, Set, READ!! We have TWO reading incentives available for students who would like awesome (and free!) stuff! It’s easy: read, log your minutes, and receive your prizes at the end of the school year. Ozzie’s Reading Club gives students the opportunity to earn free admission to a Kane County Cougar’s game in the 2020 season. The Read to Succeed program allows students to read their way to Six Flags Great America! Reading minutes can be counted toward both incentives. Look for these reading logs for more information. ***Please note that this year students should log their reading minutes online for Six Flags.
Kindergarten and First Grade Notice
Kindergarten Preview will be on March 13, 2020! We want to be sure that we have every student’s name in order for materials to be sent prior to that date. If you have a child who will be five (5) years old ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 or if you have a neighbor with a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2020, please call the Elmwood School Office 630-420-6341. Also, if you have a child attending another Kindergarten program who will be starting First Grade at Elmwood in Fall 2020, please notify us as soon as possible.
Virtual Back Pack
The Virtual Backpack for District 203, is an "eco-friendly" approach to distributing information that supports the school district's education goals and mission submitted for consideration from non-profit organizations and intergovernmental agencies. The district does not distribute any information to student backpacks. Please check the flyers at the bottom of this link for other programs and events happening around the district HERE.
