Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter

August 29, 2021

We are so proud of our students for completing their first full week of school! It's been great to see how quickly they are adjusting to school routines and getting into their learning.

Thank you to our teachers for a wonderful, informative Curriculum Night! We appreciated that so many parents were able to join us to learn about the important and exciting things our students will be learning at Dryden this year.

Also, many thanks to those who were able to stop by the Dryden LMC to participate in our "Hook-A-Book" fundraiser. $1100 was raised to purchase new books and equipment for the LMC.

Patriotic Sing Along by the Flagpole, September 10

In honor of 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, students, staff and families are invited to meet Music Teacher Mr. Deptula by the flagpole on Friday, September 10 for a Patriotic Sing Along during the morning arrival. Students are invited to wear red, white and blue to school. At school we will talk about thanking our service workers and doing good deeds for others.

Cross Walk Safety

It's been fantastic to see so many students and their families taking advantage of the nice weather and walking or biking to and from school. Please help us remind students to cross the street with the crossing guard, Mr. Poteracki, at Dryden and Rockwell, or at the crosswalk by Orchard and Dryden. Crossing mid-street is highly discouraged, especially during arrival and dismissal when there are many cars driving up and down Dryden. Also, at Dryden and Rockwell, please remind students to wait to cross the street with the crossing guard. Thank you!

Safety Drills

Throughout the school year, schools participate in a variety of routine safety drills: evacuation (fire), lockdown (intruder) and shelter-in-place (tornado). Parents will be notified in advance of these drills. Our first evacuation drill will take place in the morning of September 2.

MAP Testing, September 9 & 10

MAP Testing will take place at Dryden on September 9 and 10. Classroom teachers will email specific testing times to parents. MAP is a district-wide, computer-administered adaptive test, which means that test questions adjust to each student’s ability level as they navigate the assessment. The mathematics and reading assessments align to the Illinois Learning Standards. MAP testing for all D25 students will provide teachers and families with a common assessment to capture students’ progress throughout their D25 schooling. For more information about MAP resources for parents, access the NWEA Family Toolkit here.

School Lunch Reminder

Please note that students who choose to pack a meal from home are invited to take a bag with milk that will also contain a fruit, vegetable, and grain at no charge. If your child has food allergies or food intolerances, please work with them to identify what they can consume from this bag, should they decide to pick it up.

All of these bagged items will be wrapped. If a student chooses not to consume all items, those may be placed on a table in the eating area so as to not be wasted.

As a reminder, lunch is free this school year for all District 25 students.

Thank you,

District 25 Food Services
