Skills for Life and Learning
Please join the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Training and Consultation Team (TaC) for this training series.
This twelve-part professional learning series will focus on the 2 domains and 11 skills of executive functioning to support students as they develop these essential competencies. Each session will focus on one skill with time for an overview, ideas for integration of these essential skills in the classroom and resources sharing followed by networking regarding practical ways to integrate executive function in the curriculum.
Intended Audience: K-12 General Education Teachers, K-12 Special Education Teachers, Transition Coordinators, Administrators, Special Education Liaisons, Parents
Educators who work for LEAs in the AIU3 region will have priority registration.
- There is no cost for this training series
- Act 48 hours are available upon completion of the training series

Session 4: Emotional Control
This one-hour session will focus on the executive functioning skill of emotional control-- defined as the ability to manage emotions to achieve goals, complete tasks, or control and direct behavior (Dawson & Guare, 2009). There will be time for participants to network and resource share.

Session 5: Sustained Attention
This one-hour session will focus on the executive functioning skill of sustained attention -- defined as the ability to keep paying attention to a situation or task in spite of distractibility, fatigue, or boredom (Dawson & Guare, 2009). There will be time for participants to network and resource share.

Session 6: Task Initiation
This one-hour session will focus on the executive functioning skill of task initiation -- defined as the ability to begin projects without undue procrastination (in a timely manner) (Dawson & Guare, 2009). There will be time for participants to network and resource share.

This one-hour session will focus on the executive functioning skill of goal-directed persistence-- defined as the capacity to have a goal, follow through to completion, and not be put off by or distracted by competing interests (Dawson & Guare, 2009).
