Reeceville Elementary School
Monday Morning Message: December 7, 2020
The Virtual Schedule Continues
On December 10, 2020, the Coatesville Area School District will bring back additional students, in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, for in person instruction. Although additional students will be in the buildings, the elementary schools will remain on a virtual schedule. The virtual schedule will continue to have all core content subject area classes in the morning. Related arts classes will remain in a virtual format for all students whether they are coming into school or remaining home for instruction. All elementary students whether receiving in-person or virtual instruction will continue to receive lunch, related arts classes, and intervention support in the afternoon.
The mission of Reeceville Elementary School is to help your child progress towards academic success, and we are very excited to be able to provide MTSS support during our virtual instruction. With this mission in mind, we have built MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) time into our daily schedule. MTSS time is from 1:40-3:10 or 1:00-2:30. The MTSS block is based on data collected from the Acadience Universal Screening competed in the Fall. The Acadience Universal Screening helps teachers determine the skills to target for instructional support and academic success for each student. Each child's teacher will schedule a specific MTSS time for the students and will communicate those times to families.

Fifth Grade Virtual Design Challenge
5th graders worked on a Virtual Design Challenge. They had a variety of choices and had to pick 2 to complete: Design a Thankful Tree, Run Away Turkey, Design a Turkey Trap, Design a Macy's Day Float, Create a Costume, Build a Mini Mayflower, or a pre-approved project.
Students were required to create two items from the choices, and also read or listen to two of the texts from the Powerpoint. Here is a sample of their work:
Mrs. March's Third Grade Scholars
The third graders in Mrs. March's class have been busy this week finishing up their non-fiction unit by reading non-fiction books and then videotaping themselves sharing what they have learned or become an "expert" on. The students have learned to use thinking prompts like I wonder...., What if....., This is important because..., to help them learn how to talk to others about what they have read.
In Social Studies the students are learning about landforms. This week they explored peninsulas and islands. The students then compared and contrasted the two landforms and followed up with a fun directed drawing activity where they drew an island.
A Wonderful Start to a Friday
To boost staff morale, Reeceville’s Staff Refresher Committee elves delivered homemade masks to all staff in the building. These beautiful colored pencil masks were created by one of our teacher’s mother-in-law. It was a wonderful way to start off our day!

Discontinuing Honor Roll
Although we will continue to celebrate the academic success of our students, we will no longer be awarding Honor Roll. In reflecting upon our academic practices and grade reporting, standards-based report cards measure the growth of students’ progress in relationship to each standard throughout a grading period. Our report card focuses on growth over end product. Thank you for your support as we continue to reflect and improve upon the educational decisions that impact our students.
Literacy Tips for Families from Mrs. Washington
Please enjoy reading the tips from Reading Rockets and Scholastic Books compiled specifically for second graders. Keep in mind, while there are reading and writing behaviors that can be described as “typical” for a grade level, children may develop skills earlier or later. We want to meet readers and writers where they are and support them in ways that move them forward.
