Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
March 18th-22nd
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will go back to Social Studies for a mini unit on the causes of the American Revolution. We will look at the French and Indian War, Boston Tea Party, and the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Because we are only taking a week for this, there will not be a quiz over this information. We will instead be taking classwork grades on assignments done throughout the week.
- Mrs. Thurston/Leonard/Uhlenhake's Math and ELA: This week in ELA students will be learning about point of view. We will be discussing 1st person point of view and 3rd person point of view. We will take a short quiz on Friday! In writing they will continue working on their Text Dependent Analysis. This week in math we will continue learning about measurement and focus on capacity and weight. Students will learn customary units of capacity and weight, such as cups, pints, quarts, gallons, ounces, pounds, and tons. They will also learn about metric units of capacity and weight, such as liters, milliliters, grams, and kilograms. The measurement unit test will be March 27th.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA: This week we will start a unit on Greek mythology. Students will be learning the characteristics of a myth and reading about Greek gods and goddesses. There will be a Greek myth Socratic Seminar on Wednesday. There is no spelling this week because of the short week. We will start back after all these field trips are completed. In writing, we will be analyzing the rubric for a literary essay and planning out our own essay on the story "The Legend of the Black Fish." In math we will be continuing with our unit on measurement. We will learn about customary and metric units of weight and capacity. Please continue to review this with your children at home. It is very confusing and takes a great deal of practice to be able to estimate different units of measurement. There are also practice questions on IXL that would be a wonderful resource for kids to use.
From Ms. Macanas
Hello Parents!
Starting this week I'll be giving back a subject back to Ms. Harris. I'm letting go of Reading first, but I'm still teaching the rest of the subjects. In math this week we will be doing weight and capacity units, both customary and metric! We worked really hard doing conversions with lengths last week so please practice with them on conversions again this week. We're finally taking a break on literary essays and start practicing text dependent analysis. It's very similar to literary essays, however there are some things that are different. We're also starting on the causes of the American Revolution in social studies this week. It'll be a lot of content, but we'll be sure to make it fun!
Our Golf Field Trip is next Thursday 28th
Next Friday is a Teacher Workday
Third Quarter Ends Monday 25th

Good Luck to the Robotics Team!!
From Mrs. Walker,
I cannot possibly say a big enough THANK YOU for all of the support and encouragement you guys have shown the robotics team this week. I received an email Sunday morning with their invitations to Worlds - and a surprise deadline of one week to pay the $2000 registration fees. Between Aquabots, the online fundraiser, and generous donations we have raised enough to cover the registration fees AND other supplies the kids will need like rolling/locking toolboxes to transport the robots. I know that this could not happen in many schools. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to represent FMES to the world. (And it really is the WORLD... we have been told the kids will need to have Google Translate and dry erase boards/markers to help them communicate game strategy with teams that do not speak English. They are going to be meeting people from China, Brazil, India, the UK, Canada, and many other countries.)
Thank you again!!
