Dear Parents,
I would like to remind you that flu season is here. It is important to know the difference between a cold and the flu.
Typical flu symptoms usually consist of a combination of the following:
- Fever
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Fatigue, muscle aches/body aches
- Runny/stuffy nose
- Vomiting/diarrhea, more often with children than adults
Cold symptoms are usually not as severe consisting mostly of runny/stuffy nose and typically does not have fever associated with it. Also, there are not likely to be secondary health problems related to a cold.
Please remember that, during times of illness, students need to stay home for at least 24 hours AFTER symptoms of fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea have stopped without assistance from medications. This allows proper rest for your student and prevention of the spread of potentially contagious illnesses to other students and staff on campus. I will be continuing to track flu trends throughout the year. Please continue to notify the office and/or your student's teacher as to why your student is absent. This is a great help.
As always, thank you for doing your part in helping to make CES a healthy learning environment.

Colleyville Mayor for a Day
The City of Colleyville is excited to announce that the 12th annual Mayor for a Day contest opened Tuesday, Nov. 1. We hope that you will share this wonderful opportunity with your students and encourage them to participate. All entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5. Announcement of the winner will be made the following week. The contest is open to Colleyville residents only, in grades 2-7.
To enter, all contestants must submit a one-to-two page essay about what they would do to make Colleyville the best city in North Texas. Entries must include the student’s name, school and grade, address, and parents’ phone number at the top of the essay. No other identifying information should be included in the essay, as all personal information will be redacted prior to review by the committee of judges.
For the Mayor for a Day essay contest winner, a day as the city’s “mayor” is the beginning of an unforgettable year. The student will serve as honorary mayor in January, touring city facilities and co-presiding with Mayor Richard Newton at a City Council meeting. Additional activities will be scheduled throughout the year, according to the student’s availability.
Full contest details are available on the City’s website (http://www.colleyville.com/news/Latest_News/article1059.html) or please feel free to contact me at 817.503.1112 with any questions.

World Wear Project
CES is celebrating America Recycles Day in November and December!!
CES is partnering with World Wear and recycling once again this year. Be a part of diverting thousands of pounds of shoes and clothing from local landfills by filling our donation bin with your gently used shoes, clothing, purses, belts, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals and pots and pans. For every pound collected from you, our PTA receives $0.12. It's a convenient way for you to have neater closets, drawers, toy boxes, and kitchens, and the knowledge that less textile waste will end up in our local landfills.
When - November 1st - December 31st
Where - you will see a large blue bin in the back parking lot of CES (far back corner closest to CMS track).
Questions? (or if you see the bin overflowing) Email Leanne Newbern at LMNewbern@mac.com
