Remind
Remind is a free service that allows teachers to send text messages to parents (or students) about what is going on at school. Texts can be sent from a computer or a smartphone. Your phone number is never revealed to the people you text, and their numbers are not revealed to you. To use Remind, parents opt-in with a confirmation code to be added to your list.
Other great features:
- Schedule reminders ahead of time
- Attach files (like photos) to share with your group
- Add co-teachers to your class who can also send messages
- Translate messages into more than 70 languages
- See who has read your text messages and who hasn't
- Plan important activities, like field trips and class events, and collect funds through the app
Quick Tip
Many times, teachers want a Google Drive file in more than one folder without having to make a copy of it. To do so, click on the file in Google Drive, then press Shift + Z to add it to multiple folders.
Hapara Highlights
Hapara Interact is now known as Hapara Highlights. Check out this handy guide, created by Megan Preis (Lincoln ITC), to learn more about the new features that Highlights has to offer.
As a reminder, this is where you can view your students' Chromebook web activity, including the tabs they have open, as well as the current screen they are viewing. This is available for all 3-5 teachers.
GEG Film Fest
GEG (Google Educator Group) Chicagoland is hosting their 1st annual Student Film Festival! This competition is open to all students in grades K-12. Participants are asked to create a 3-minute film responding to the question: "What’s Your Superpower? Tell us how you can change the world for the better." Winning entries will be screened on February 24th at Google Chicago's film festival. Student filmmakers will be invited to visit the offices and be honored at the event.
