The Road to Perseverence

What is perseverance to me?
Robby Novak is best known as Kid President. He is an inspiring and eloquent speaker for a kid his age. He has a life-long chronic condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. Osteogenesis imperfecta is a very rare disease where the bone is very brittle and breaks more easily and Robby has already gotten 70 bone fractures since he was born and he is only age nine. He has had to endure broken bones and blood infusions to make his bones stronger for only a short time. Despite these adversities, he remains active and acting like a normal kid. He has created Kid President to try to make the world more awesome, he acts like a normal nine year old and plays games with other kids because he wants to and can. “Don’t be in a party, be a party.” This shows us that we shouldn’t just be having fun, we should be the the fun and help other people be the fun like that too.
In Carroll County, Tennessee, the court created a school for ‘problem’ children who had been kicked out of their normal schools so they could learn life lessons and get the same education that they would at their normal school so they can still get into the college they wanted to go to or chose to. This school is called Carroll Academy and they have a basketball team for students who have been court ordered to play for that school year for the school, and the girls basketball teams name is The Lady Jags. They have girls who ran away from abusive parents, have alcoholic parents, are alcoholics, have drugs in their lives, and just people who have had way too many things on their plate that they could hardly persevere through them. On this team it isn’t about winning, it’s about learning life lessons through the game. Always protect each other, work with other people to achieve a goal, learn responsibility and obligation and many other lessons. They just work together, have a good time and learn from a man who loves them all and wants to help them have a better life, he acts like a second father to them. Some of the towns that they live in have a high percentage of people below the poverty line and a high percentage of unemployment and drugs used. The coach of this basketball team helps make them all feel like a family and work together to do their best. They help them know what family, happiness and friends feel like.
Jackie Robinson had accomplished something that helped shape the nation. But baseball today isn’t very different from what it was then. Back then in baseball no blacks were allowed to play in the MLB at all so that only whites were allowed to play in the majors because of petty reasons such as blacks are inferior to whites and other ideas like that. Today the amount of blacks in baseball is only 13%, while when blacks were first allowed to play in the MLB it was at 25%. When blacks were first allowed into the MLB they were treated almost the exact same as they were before they were allowed to. Today the percentage is less than back then but the blacks who play the game and just in general are treated better than they were back then. Even though they can play in the MLB, none of the coaches are black. The same is said for today.
