Girls Basketball Wins Three Games Over the Weekend
The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team won all three games over the weekend to improve to 19-2 Overall and 4-0 in 7A Area 7.
HT 55 Madison Academy 42
On Monday, the Huskies avenged a loss from earlier in the season as they went on the road to defeat Madison Academy. It was a match up between teams ranked in the top five in their respective classifications.
Erica Jones was efficient on the offensive end as she made seven of eight shots for the game on her way to scoring 16 points. Leah Harrison made five shots from the foul line and scored 11 points on the day. London Coleman also played a solid game as she added 10 points.
HT 68 Huffman 46
The fourth-ranked Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team defeated Huffman 68-46 on Saturday night at Huffman. The game was played as a part of the 2018 Viking Classic.
Hewitt once again needed a third quarter rally to get past a talented Huffman team. The Vikings led for much of the first half and took a 29-25 lead into the locker room. That is when the Huskies offense caught fire as they outscored Huffman 20-6 in the third quarter. Amiya Payne hit two three-pointers in the quarter including a long triple at the buzzer.
Leah Harrison led Hewitt in scoring as she totaled 23 points for the game. Amiya Payne scored 18 points and Erica Jones scored 16 points.
HT 56 Gadsden City 39
The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team improved to 4-0 in 7A Area 7 on Friday night as they defeated Gadsden City 56-39. The Huskies won against the Titans at home earlier in the year and were able to pick up the sweep with the win in Gadsden.
The first quarter was dominated by defense. Both teams had trouble scoring and the game was tied at eight after the first period of action. The Huskies offense picked up a bit in the second quarter and Hewitt took a small lead into the locker room. Coach Tonya Hunter’s team took charge of the game in the third quarter. Erica Jones scored nine points in the quarter as the Huskies increased their lead.
Jones led the offensive attack as she scored 19 points on the night. Amiya Payne added 11 points and Morgan Kirk scored 10 points.
Boys Basketball Falls to Gadsden City
