Washington MS May '23 Update
It's a Great Day to be a Junior Husky!
From The Main Office
Happy Spring Jr. Husky students and families!!! Hope you have been enjoying this gorgeous spring weather, a much needed reboot for all, as we are almost to the finish line. Can you believe it?!? Just wanted to take a moment to share some student-led activities that Iβve noticed and want to celebrate. In addition, I want to share some gentle reminders as our school year is heading to a close, with only two months left before summer break.
First, some celebrations:
- WMS Student Led Conferences were a success! It was so great seeing and hearing your scholars reflect and present on their learning!! Awesome job, Jr. Huskies!
- Our 8th grade science students did an amazing job on their βNatural Selection Projectβ, creating camouflaged butterflies that they hid around their classrooms, with the hopes of their butterfly going undetected. I canβt tell you how much I enjoyed participating in this activity as a βbutterfly hunterβ and look forward to participating in this again.
- The mobile and student run βZippy Cafeβ always lights up our hallways on Friday afternoons, serving coffees, teas, and delicious treats that puts a smile on everyoneβs face. Whatβs even more wonderful is to see our scholars learning and practicing these necessary life skills.
- I also want to give a huge shout out to all of the scholars who have participated in the βStudent Scoop Announcementsβ. Iβve so enjoyed working with you and getting to know each and everyone of you! Youβve done such an outstanding job on fine tuning your public speaking skills, providing student voice for your peers, and youβre making a positive impact on Washington Middle School!
Just some gentle reminders to ensure a safe and successful end of the year.
- This is the time to stay steady, Jr. Huskies. Focus on your studies.
- Focus on the βend prizeβ. Focus on the practice of using kind words and actions toward your classmates, peers, and to the WMS staff.
- Practice school safety. Keep your hands to yourself in class and in the hallways. Ensure you have approval from your teacher to leave class and have a valid pass. Limit time in the hallways during class. Line up in a safe and orderly fashion during your lunch time. Lastly, bus riders, please report to your assigned bus at dismissal in a quick and orderly fashion.
Moving forward, letβs make this an amazing last two months of school! Iβm so thankful to serve each and everyone one of you!! Last, but not least, never forget thatβ¦Itβs a great day to be a Junior Husky!!

π©Ί WELLNESS CENTER HIGHLIGHT π©Ί
Put Health First with Our Convenient Wellness Center
Did you know that Washington Middle School has a wellness center that is convenient for your childβs medical care? The Wellness Center is open during the school year and is available to all students. It provides students with health care and mental health counseling, regardless of a studentβs insurance or ability to pay.
School-based health centers play a big part in the health, academic success, and graduation rates of students. Our clinicβs message to students is that seeking care is normal and healthy. Onsite Wellness services benefit students so they can focus on learning and receive care at school!
Students can be seen for standard preventive care β immunizations, asthma management, acne and eczema, womenβs health care, treatment of common illnesses, sports physicals, and routine medical concerns such as headaches and crampsβin addition to mental health services.
To help students become eligible to participate in spring sports at Washington, the Wellness Center completed over 50 sports physicals in the past month! Sports physicals are valid for 24 consecutive months.
The availability and convenience of these multidisciplinary clinics allows students to be diagnosed and treated quickly. For example, if a student were to visit the clinic with a stomachache and the medical provider determined that the ache is a symptom of anxiety, the student could be referred to meet with the counselor.
Students can get great care at the Wellness Center. To access services, parents/guardian(s) need to complete a registration packet. Stop by the Wellness Center to get a registration packet or register online. Click here to access the Wellness Center Registration online consent forms:
