5th Grade Weekly Classroom Newsletter - Oct. 6 - Oct. 10

THIS WEEK IN FIFTH GRADE

The 5th grade team is excited to introduce to you our new way of communicating with our parents. Smore.com is an excellent resource that will allow us to provide you with a more detailed look into the approaching curriculum and the events we have planned. In addition to seeing what we have planned for our lessons or assessments, we will be able to provide a list of spelling words, vocabulary words, and additional miscellaneous information that we were forced to omit from newsletters due to spacing concerns. Each week a flyer will be sent to our parents so that you may view what your students will be doing. We welcome the input of our parents for any additional information you would like included that we haven't thought of yet.

Please don't hesitate to contact us, if you have any questions!

Have a spectacular week!

I scan-in all of the assignments that I can and post them there. I have a list of the passwords and usernames for those of you that are struggling to access it. Please email me if you need it.

Home Access Center
If you would like to keep up with due dates for this unit, they are all posted a ready on Home Access Center. This will also be a great place to check for NHI's as well and absent work. I post all assignments at the beginning of each unit. I do my best to update grades as often as possible, but sometimes that is only once a week. I appreciate your patience!

Spelling Words
This week's spelling words are posted on Spelling City. Please see the link below under the "Spelling" sections for the link to the page. I update it every Monday, except for those times we have no school on Monday. I also send home definitions and packets for the students to work on for extra practice. They are: border states, draft, emancipation, casualties, camp, home front, civilian, telegraph, total war Freedmen's Bureau, reconstruction, and impeach.

Scoring High ITBS Practice Books

Each student in 5th grade has been given a “Scoring High” test preparation book to practice for the upcoming ITBS test, which is October 20th-24th. The ITBS is a nationally normed reference test that measures students’ progress in math, reading, science, and social studies. The “Scoring High” practice book is a great tool for teaching the students test taking skills and familiarizing them with the format of the test. The practice book covers all subjects with the exception of social studies. It will be used for warm-up and homework not as an instructional material. In order to help your children improve their test taking skills, please follow up and have them complete practice questions in the “Scoring High” book at home. We will be going over the practice questions in class. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

We would LOVE to visit our students at home at your convenience.
