The Wedding at Cana - First Sign

(John 2:1-12)

3 Quotes from the Miracle

1. When the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from, the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

2. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.

3. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Jesus turned the water into wine.

Jesus attended a wedding at Cana. They ran out of wine, so Jesus told the waiters to take the six stone jars and fill them to the brim with water. Then he told them to bring some to the chief steward. He turned the water into wine.

Why is this important?

The Wedding at Cana was the first place that Jesus revealed himself. This is the first start of Jesus's glory being known to the world.

Eye Witness Acounts

An unknown witness- "It was so odd. All of the people including me that witnessed it was in total shock. We were staring at one each other as if saying what just happened. The people around us were dancing and oblivious to the situation. The servants that were helping Jesus gather the water were all very nervous and unsteady, because they did not know what Jesus was about to do.
