The SSP Pilot is Flying
Hello Patriots,
This week, students with no Ds or Fs either attended SSP, went to the library, the gym, the commons, the cyber cafe or left campus on extended lunch. And students with Ds or Fs remained in SSP and received targeted instruction to pull their grades up. The whole point of this new SSP pilot is to improve overall grade performance for our students. All student grades are now run weekly, every Monday at noon, and those results are used to determine how each student will use their SSP time that week in order to maximize their academic performance. Understand: SSP is not punitive...it is not a punishment, it is a "student support program" (SSP). At this point in the pilot, we are really not focused on why a student has a low grade (it could be they were sick, on vacation, traveling with a sports team, or whatever); our focus is on providing timely and targeted instruction to remedy the low-grade situation, that is, to help students bring their low grades up. If you missed it in last week's edition, a more detailed explanation of this pilot is here.
So, how did it go last week you ask? Well, it's early, and we're tracking the data results, but so far things are looking good. Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr this Monday (a holiday), one of his quotes seems fitting for the SSP pilot: "All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." We will provide more updates as this SSP pilot continues.
• Do you have decorations for this year's prom you could donate/repurpose (this year's theme is "Enchanted Forest")? We need fake flowers, trees, critters, etc. They can be dropped off at the front office. Quesions? See Ms. Beks. Thank you!
