OCEAN Field Trip: Friday January 20th
Salmon Stream Restoration: Community Service Project with NWI
YAY helping the earth! Our next field trip is on Friday January 20th. We are going to do community service by helping Northwest Watershed Institute (NWI) with aspects of their salmon restoration projects in the Tarboo area. Here is a blurb from Megan (the project coordinator for NWI):
The project will be harvesting live cuttings from plants on the preserve to plant in February. We may also work on potting up plants in the nursery or removing tree protectors depending on the size of your group. The first hour of the project will involve a training on plant identification, harvesting techniques, and propagation. This would involve pulling some English ivy that is creeping around the base of trees or digging up Himalayan blackberry roots from a recently cleared area.
This is a work trip! Come prepared to work hard and do something for the planet. Please dress appropriately for being outside in all weather. Boots and raingear will make you much happier.
As always this trip is parent accompanied. Once I have three confirmed chaperones. We will have space for unaccompanied students in the vans. This is done on a first come first served basis.
Important: Please rsvp via email dmolotsky@ptschools.org ASAP if you want to come. We have a lot of students this year and need to know the numbers in advance so NWI can plan.
