From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,

Emily Strickland, Jason Stephenson, Lilah Storch (woodwind trio, superior rating), Zachary Rediske (clarinet solo, excellent rating), Jacob Blaney (oboe solo, excellent rating), Antonio Brown (alto sax solo, superior rating), Jason Stephenson (clarinet solo, excellent rating), Henry Fu (clarinet solo, excellent rating), Carter Hetz (alto sax solo, superior rating), Benjamin DeLoach (alto sax solo, superior rating), Jacob Hodges (alto sax solo, excellent rating), Gabrielle Batas (snare drum solo, excellent rating), Daniel Colon (alto sax solo, superior rating), Lilah Storch (oboe solo, superior rating), Shay Stulman (flute solo, superior rating), Issac Faggen (mallet solo, excellent rating).
On Wednesday, Drum Major Auditions for the 2022-2023 Winter Park Band were held. We had lots of very well prepared auditions, and I am proud of the work that all auditionees put into their performance. Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Drum Majors! (alpha order)

The Winter Park Winter Guard wrapped up their competitive season last week with a Friends and Family performance on Thursday evening and their final competition at FFCC Championships on Friday evening in Daytona Beach. They had a strong season while welcoming in new faces and building towards the future of the program. Congratulations!
On Saturday, three of our Band students performed with this year's All-County Jazz Ensembles. Congratulations to Kaia Leavitt (alto sax, HS2), Kang Muscatello (trombone, HS1), and Jacob Thigpen (piano, HS1) on their performances! Both bands sounded great, and got the chance to work with outstanding educators all weekend.
Phew! That sure was a jam-packed week. This week, Jazz Ensemble I will be performing at the Maitland Jazz & Blues Festival at Maitland City Hall on Saturday, April 2. They would love to see lots of friendly faces in the audience! Also this week, three of our feeder middle school band programs will be holding their Pre-MPA concerts. On Tuesday, March 29, both Maitland MS and Audubon Park School will perform in the Winter Park HS Auditorium beginning at 5:30 PM. On Wednesday, March 30, Glenridge MS will perform in the GMS Multipurpose Room from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. It would mean a lot to our future Winter Park Band students to have a contingent of current high school students in the audience to support and cheer them on as they prepare for Concert MPA!
Spirit Wear Order: Show your Winter Park Band spirit with our available Spirit Wear! Starting tomorrow, Monday 3/28, a number of clothing items and other useful things will become available for our Band families to purchase. See below in this newsletter for examples of all items available, all clothing available in Adult Small - Adult 3XL. Spirit Wear orders are due by Tuesday, April 5. All orders may be placed through SchoolPay.com. If you have any questions, email myself and Mr. Smith.
I ask all Band families, if you have not done so already, to please look at your student's financial account in Cut Time. All accounts are now up to date and accounts can be viewed on Cut Time anytime, 24/7 by logging into the Cut Time website. All financial obligations for this school year are now past due and must be alleviated either before graduation for seniors or before Band Registration Night in May for underclassmen.
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

Week of March 27, 2022
Hello everyone. Congratulations to the Winter Guard for their performances Thursday and Friday and to the All County Jazz students on their performance on Saturday!
Please encourage any incoming potential band students you know (for next year) and their parents to come to the Freshman student ice breaker/parent information event on April 12 at 7pm. Even if the parents or students you know are on the fence, it’s a great opportunity to meet the student leaders and learn additional information about the WPHS band program. If you know anyone who has questions, please have them reach out to Mr. Clemente, Mr. Smith, or any current board members or band parents for additional information.
If you are in Maitland next Saturday, come hear Jazz I play at 2 PM. I know they’d love an enthusiastic audience. Please stay tuned for volunteer needs and keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events. Have a great week everyone.
Uniform Room Help Needed
Mrs. Schaefer, Uniform Chair, is looking for students to help with Uniform room tasks to help wrap up this year. There will also be summer opportunities and Uniform Crew leadership positions next year to help things run smoothly. If you are interested is learning more, please contact Amanda Schaefer at schaefer.momma@gmail.com, or text your name and Uniform Crew interest to 386-214-5432.
Thank you!

COLOR GUARD TRYOUTS - April 14

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
We will be also seeking volunteers to help at a Trailer Work- Days throughout the month of January. We will be repairing minor body damage, painting the trailer and removing the old logos. Please contact Keith Gavin @ kgavin@sscands.com if you can assist.
