Grade 3 BVSD Battle of the Books
Welcome!
Hello Everyone,
We are very excited to announce the details of the 2023 Battle of the Books. Details have changed since last year so please be sure to read this completely and mark your calendars. We'd like to ask for your help ensuring safety and the care of our school property while we borrow it for our event.
- Please no food or drinks other than water bottles.
- Students will participate in the upstairs rooms.
- Families will stay to the cafeteria during the entire event.
- Small children must not be left unattended or allowed to wander upstairs.
- Please no standing on furniture or hand railing.
- Carpooling is encouraged. There are MANY participants. Parking on the street may be needed. Give you self plenty of time to arrive.
BVSD Battle of the Books Grade 3
This is the anticipated schedule, please be flexible as it may go longer or end earlier depending on the competition circumstances.
- 3:15 - 3:30 - Students Check in and go to rooms
- 3:30 - 3:50 - Intro/Instructions
- 3:50 - 4:20 - Battle Questions
- 4:20 - 4:30 - Bathroom Break
- 4:30 - 4:40 - Tie Intro/Instructions (if needed)
- 4:40 - 5:00 -Tie Breaker Battle Questions (if needed)
- 5:00 - 5:10 - Move to the Cafeteria
- 5:10 - 5:30 - Awards
Awards will happen sooner if there are no ties.

Event Structure
Event Structure
Battle of the Books has grown dramatically over the years. We are unable to accommodate all students and families in the same rooms.
- Parents will be able to wait in the cafeteria and watch the presentation on the big screen.
- Everyone will attend the awards ceremony together in the cafeteria after each level battle.
Devices:
- Team Managers please be sure to bring a charged Laptop or Chromebook including power cord with you.
- It does not matter if you use a student, teacher or non BVSD computer.
- The quiz will not be based on BVSD IDs nor need access to email.
Check In:
- Team Manager grab your folder at the check in desk when you arrive.
- Students can check the BOARDS to find out their BATTLE STATION room #.
- Once you know your room #, you do not need to wait for your whole team to be there, please proceed to your BATTLE STATION.
- Sit at the table labeled with your school name and wait to begin.
- Everyone should be facing the screen in the room.
Battle Time:
- 3-5 Teams will be assigned a room together.
- A presentation will be provided in each BATTLE ROOM.
- Questions will be provided via Google Quiz.
- Team Managers will be provided a tiny URL during the presentation to type into your browser to bring up the quiz.
- The announcer will read aloud the questions and teams will follow along on their computer.
- Teams will have 30 seconds to answer each question.
- A timer will appear on the screen.
- There are 40 questions total.
- To ensure there are no user errors, students will work together to choose answers to the questions and the team manager will enter the choices into the google quiz.
- Each question will list all the book options.
- You will also have a list of books in your folder you can put out on your table to use.
- All questions will be answered with no assistance from books, visual aids, notes or team manager.
Tie Breakers:
- Everyone will wait at their Battle Stations until the scores are tallied.
- If there is a tie, tied teams will stay and do another google quiz.
- The rest of the teams will exit to the cafeteria and wait.
- If there are no ties, everyone will exit to the cafeteria and we will continue on to the awards right away.
Awards & Certificates:
- All students participating will receive a participation certificate and sticker.
- 1st - 3rd place team members will receive medals and books.
- 1st place winners will get to keep our traveling trophies on display for the school year.
