Second Grade Happenings

Friday, September 4, 2015

Our long awaited iPads arrived this week! We have been getting used to all of the responsibilities that go with them. 2nd graders got Their feet wet using Padlet, Poplet, and Epic. Many students have become teachers sharing their technology expertise with their classmates. Next week I will be sending home directions for logging into your child's SeeSaw Online Learning Journal account.

Other News This Week

Writers' Workshop

This week in writers' workshop students experimented with different ways to begin a piece of writing using examples from our favorite authors. They found better ways to hook a reader's attention. Next week we'll work on keeping their attention with better middles.

Readers' Workshop

Second graders packed their toolbox of fix-up strategies to improve comprehension. They tried out checking for understanding, back up and reread and retelling the story when they didn't understand. Next week your students will add retelling nonfiction and asking questions while reading to their toolbox of strategies.

Inquiry Workshop

This week we began developing "I wonder..." questions before we head out on our Community Walking Trip. While we are on our study trip downtown, we hope to learn more about businesses in our community and what we can do to contribute to Noblesville. If your child has not returned their study trip permission slip, please return it on Tuesday.

In general, our class has not been exhibiting their best behavior this week. We had very low scores in specials as well as being loud in the hallway and restrooms. The main areas are being very chatting and not following directions. I know we can turn this around and follow the examples that many students are setting for us.
