GC Student Wins Award at SE Model African Union Conference

Senior psychology major Zykeria Jones of Warner Robins was one of eleven students from Georgia College who attended the 23rd annual Southeastern Model of the African Union (SEMAU) conference, held November 7-9 at Kennesaw State University. Ms. Jones won SEMAU’s Leadership-in-Committee Award. The conference is a realistic three-day simulation of a gathering of African heads of state based upon the national Model of the African Union held each year in Washington, D.C. On the final day of SEMAU, the student heads of state vote on resolutions, copies of which are sent to the African Union for possible adoption. Next year's SEMAU will be hosted by Georgia College. Dr. Charles Ubah and recently-retired Dr. Eustace Palmer have both played a major role for many years in organizing SEMAU, and in preparing GC students to participate. GC's International Club supports this event each year by paying the students' registration fees. For more details about SEMAU, Georgia College's participation, and Ms. Jones' experience, see the Front Page article linked here.
