Recent social media coverage includes upcoming End-of-the-Year activities, volunteer opportunities, our Claxton Team at the Elementary Battle of the Books Competition, recent field trips, the 5th grade Wall of Fame, Take A Stand Against Racism Day, 3rd Grade Hidden History of Asheville Fair, Bee Day, the drum-making Giving Tree Music artist residency with CLX 5th graders, and more!

Welcome Table Volunteers Needed for Kindergarten Registration

Please help us host our "Ask A Parent" PTO table at Claxton Kindergarten Registration on Monday, May 21. Sign up for an hour (or more)! Bring your smile and Claxton love! We will help answer questions from incoming parents and caregivers. This is also a wonderful and fun way to encourage PTO involvement and to share the events we support and champion to make programs, items, and other activities possible at Claxton! We will have several handouts available for families about Claxton events and opportunities. Sign up here to volunteer for the welcome table. Thank you!!!

A Note From the Library

All student library books must be returned back to the library by Friday May 25th. This gives the library staff enough time to complete inventory and check the status of our collection. We want to be sure all of our amazing books are in good shape and ready to be enjoyed again next school year!

Please watch for yellow overdue notices to be sent home with students every Monday and Thursday until the 25th. We currently have over 750 books that are overdue. If your child’s library book has been lost, please send in payment for the replacement of the book. Payments can be submitted by cash or check made out to Claxton Elementary School.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call Ms. Brown or Ms. Powell at 828-350-6504. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that our library has wonderful books available to our eager readers for years to come!

Student Art Fundraiser

Our Art Fundraiser, featuring each Claxton student's original artwork, is underway. If you haven't yet received your fundraiser packet from Ms. Olson in your child's green folder, watch for it to come home soon! In the meantime, if you want to go ahead and browse the products for sale or place an order, you can search for children's names online by visiting the Art to Remember website and clicking below the orange 'Submit' boxes on the 'Don't Know Your Online Order Code?' link. It's really easy to search for and order your child's artwork! Every purchase benefits our school and there are lots of keepsake options, including mugs, notecards, canvas prints, jewelry, journals, art clings, stickers, pot holders, water bottles, and more! You can share your child's order code with friends and family. Contact Ms. Olson at if you have any questions.

Charles Waters' Author Visit to Claxton

Claxton Elementary was thrilled to recently host poet Charles Waters. Mr. Waters is a former member of Poetry Alive! and has traveled the world performing his poetry. His most recent book, which he co-authored with Irene Latham, is called Can I Touch Your Hair? Poems of Race, Mistakes and Friendship. Mr. Waters performed some of his poems, inviting audience participation, and got all the kids excited about checking out "The 8-1-1" (Dewey Decimal-speak for the poetry section of the library). Thank you so much to Mr. Waters for spreading the love of poetry here at Claxton!

Support ACS Family

Many in our community had ties to the recent shooting victims, and as we collectively grieve this loss, we wanted to share a way that the Claxton community can provide support. Donations to benefit Erica Smith's surviving family members, including her two elementary school-age children, can be given to Eblen Charities. To make a donation visit the Eblen Charities website and click on the donate button. Please make sure to set the designation tab (found at the bottom of the page) to the Erica Smith Family Fund. We appreciate your support.
