Teen Opportunities at Adler
The Adler presents our first Game-Making Workshops!
Sure, your students love video games, but have they ever wondered what happens behind the scenes? Now's their chance to try building their own!
In the Adler's free Game-Making workshop series (from 10/6 to 12/16 -- full dates available on the application), students will investigate the philosophy behind games as interaction devices. Teens will learn how to code their own games in GameMaker Studio, as well as design sprites, music, sound effects, and more. The technologies students will be introduced to will be free or low-cost, and accessible, so that students will be able to take their game design skills beyond the classroom.
Encourage your students to apply for a workshop spot by September 19!
As our understanding of the Universe changes almost daily, it’s important to have strong science communicators - and this is where your teens come in!
Adler Astro–Journalist teens work with STEM mentors to research various topics in current science, analyze data, write about their findings in blog posts, and participate in ongoing citizen science efforts with projects on Zooniverse. Explore the research and writing of former Astro-Journalist interns on our blog. This workshop series, open to students ages 14 to 18, will take place from 10am to 12pm on Saturdays from October 1 through November 19, 2016.
Students can apply by sending an email to youthprograms@adlerplanetarium.orgwith (1) a cover letter explaining why they’d like to be a part of the program and (2) a writing sample, which can be a school assignment or something they’ve written on their own time. Applications are due by Thursday, September 15!
