Where our Monomoy students are 'fin'tastic!
Family Survey: Change in School Hours 2017-2018
Next school year, Monomoy Regional School District is changing the school day hours to best reflect the needs of all of our K-12 students. The anticipated elementary school hours are 7:45am - 2:15pm. Bus routes will begin shortly after 7:00 am.
The answers to this survey will provide input to the before and after-school programming at Harwich Elementary for next school year. Your input is very important, and we appreciate your time to provide us with this information.
"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - Each morning as we get the day started next week at HES we will be listening to a selection of Celtic music.
Probably the genre of music that was played most was that which came from the Celtic countries. The music could be played anywhere because the instruments were small enough to be carried by the players, and this music became the main kind of entertainment for the people that moved here.
The music is about their folk tales, their history, and their singing and dancing.
We hope that you enjoy this selection of Celtic music this week.
The question to go with the music is:
Can you name the THREE Celtic countries that are next to England?
Two water drops/bubbles for a correct answer.
The answer to the question from last week is;
Ralph Vaughan Williams is from England.

"HESnapshot" - Featured staff of the Week!
Nanci Barnett - School Psychologist
I attended Central and Southern CT State University receiving a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Sociology and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I completed my Master's Thesis on the Neurophysiological Deficits of Traumatically Brain Injured Youth and completed an epidemiological study on the services available to them in CT. I helped to pass one of the first seat belt laws in the country while beginning support groups for families of injured youth. I attended the Summer School of Alcohol and Drug Studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey and have extensive training in sexual abuse and trauma and its effect on children, specializing in treating children and adolescents in out-patient psychotherapy for fifteen years before moving to Cape Cod.
I began my career doing behavioral planning for autistic children in a Day Treatment School Program, counseling adolescents in a psychiatric hospital, and then children and families in an out-patient mental health center servicing the North Haven, CT public school system before combining counseling and behavioral planning for a Collaborative Program serving 32 towns in Northeastern CT. I have enjoyed working with adolescents, young adults, couples, families and the elderly, but always have a special place in my heart for the children that I have learned from at Harwich Elementary School.
When I'm not working, I love dinner with family and friends, going to movies, sunset walks on Dennis beaches and having fun with my dogs. I'm passionate about interior and architectural design, as well as designing and creating outdoor landscapes. I love summer!
Melissa O'Leary - Pre-K Assistant
My name is Melissa O'Leary and this is my second year as a preschool teaching assistant at Harwich Elementary School. I was born and raised right here on Cape Cod and am a 1997 graduate of Chatham High School. After high school I continued my education in upstate New York, obtaining a degree in Sociology and Psychology from Hartwick College. Right out of college I worked briefly as a residential counselor to teen moms in Dorchester MA before deciding to go back to school to further my education. While living in Boston and working at Bright Horizons and then the LEAP School I studied at Wheelock College and obtained my Masters in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. Shortly after receiving my diploma I moved back to the Cape to be with my now husband. After coming back "home" it was exciting to get a position at Chatham Elementary School as an intensive special needs teaching assistant and work along side some of the teachers I had had as a young student. I worked in Chatham for several years before deciding to be a stay at home mom to my three boys Gavin (8), Carter (6), and Dillon (5). I absolutely love working with little learners, for their energy and excitement for school is so contagious. When I'm not at school or in the hockey rink watching my boys I love to spend time traveling with family and friends and trying out new restaurants here on the Cape. In the summer you can most definitely always find me at the beach!!
Audrey Hawthorne - Make Way for Kids Assistant
I grew up in Harwich, went through the Harwich school system and graduated from Harwich High School in 1986. After graduation I went to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and graduated with my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education.
After graduation I worked as a teacher and director at a childcare center in Dennis and the Director of the after school program at Orleans Elementary School. I worked for 14 years as the lead teacher and co-director at a local private preschool in Harwich where I found that I loved working with the preschool aged children and their families. A positive first experience at school is important and I love being a part of it.
I have been married to my husband Glenn, a firefighter in Harwich, for 24 years and we have 3 daughters. The oldest is a junior in college, the middle daughter will be graduating from Monomoy in June and heading to college in the fall, and our youngest is a sophomore at Monomoy.
In my spare time I like to travel, go to the beach, cook, read, play with my 2 dogs and spend time with my family whenever I can.
"HARWICH HIGH FIVES" for the week!
