Homecoming Edition of Panther Press
Excellence,Everywhere,Everyday
Greetings Panther Nation!
We had Homecoming week last week. Everyone showed their school spirit and pride. At the 9th/10th grade pep rally, we recognized our homecoming court for the freshman and sophomore class. At the 11th/12th grade pep rally, we recognized our homecoming court for the junior and senior class as well. Our football team had a great homecoming win against the Lake Highlands Wildcats. At halftime, we crowned our Homecoming Royalty.
Every step along the way allowed our kids to demonstrate their Panther Pride. Thank you to everyone who helped coordinate and participated in making this a memorable week for our students.
Our staff is working diligently to create learning experiences that will challenge and engage our students. We are nearly at the end of the grading period, and this is always a stressful time for everyone. I would encourage you to have open lines of communication with teachers to better assist your students and their needs. We must continue on this outstanding path as we refocus on academics, positive behavior, and pride!
I appreciate all your support and let’s continue working together to help our students plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win as they move through this semester.

Construction Pathway
Did you know that students in many of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses can join SkillsUSA and participate in competitions at the local, state, and national level? Students in the Construction pathway can compete in Cabinetmaking and Carpentry.
Students in Duncanville ISD’s Construction pathway get hands-on experience by working on several projects, paid and unpaid, for the district and community members. Students recently refinished a few items for the Young Men’s Leadership Academy by performing the following tasks: chemically removing the old finish, sanding, applying a new color, applying a sanding sealer, and finally applying a top coat finish.
Two in-demand occupations within the Construction pathway are Construction Carpenters and Managers. In Texas, jobs in both occupations are expected to increase by 18% from 2016 to 2026; the median salary for Construction Carpenters is about $38,000 and $95,000 for Construction Managers. DHS students can get a jump start on these careers by completing the OSHA 30 Hour Construction and NCCER Construction Site Safety Technician training programs on campus - for free!
30 amazing Marketing and Accounting students attend Junior Achievement of Dallas.
30 amazing Marketing and Accounting students were extended the opportunity to engage with the Junior Achievement of Dallas’s JA Finance Park on Friday October 11, 2019.
JA Finance Park® enables middle and high school students to build foundations for making intelligent lifelong personal finance decisions, in a program correlated to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
In 13 teacher-led lessons, combined with a 4.5 hour simulation, students learn about the many pieces of a personal budget, such as rent/mortgage, car payments, insurance, savings, entertainment, groceries and more! As students strive to create a balanced budget, they begin to understand the value of money, and make the connection between hard work, education, and their future earnings.
The got to see how their parents have to budget and pay bills on a monthly basis.
Congrats to our Varsity Volleyball team on their huge victory Friday Night against the Lake Highlands Wildcats.
Friday Night Lights in Duncanville!
Football games are such a great showcase of so many talented students both on and off the field. While we are there for a football game, we are privy to wonderful performances by our award winning band, High Hats, and cheerleaders. What you see in these performances are not done by accident, they happen through a lot of hard work by students and staff. As you can see, we have really hit the ground running and are off to a great start!

SEL: Kindness Counts
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process for helping children and adults develop fundamental skills for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to manage ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically.
In Duncanville ISD, we are committed to supporting the needs of the whole child through SEL. Kindness Counts is a multi-faceted initiative that encourages students, staff, and community members to become emotionally connected and to cultivate respect for others. This is a commitment to change the culture of our schools and community by promoting kindness and compassion.
During the 2019-20 school year, parents and staff are encouraged to join us for our Kindness Counts Series. Each event in the series has a centralized theme.
