School of Saint Mary FYI
October 1, 2021
Notes from Mrs. Maricle
1. MAP Growth Assessment: The NWEA MAP Test (Measures of Academic Progress) has gone very well this week. We are wrapping up Language today and will take Math next week. Both students and teachers have given positive feedback about the process. It's been a pretty stress free testing experience for the kids which makes my Principal heart happy!
Please follow the tips below to prepare your child/ren for the MAP Growth Assessment:
- Get plenty of sleep
- Eat breakfast.
- Do your best- there will be questions you do not know so just use your best guess.
- If you need help, just ask!
2. Light the Way Drive: Don't forget that our lightbulb and nightlight drive for the Afghan families starts next week. Donations need to be dropped off in student homerooms.
3. Weekend Mass: Some of our middle school students will be leading the 10:30am Sunday Mass this weekend. We would love to pack the Church to show our support and unity!
4. Mary Fair: ONE WEEK until the big event! Please read the email sent out today about last minute asks and things for our fundraiser. Also, we still need wine and whiskey pull donations. Flyer attached below!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Check out some of the auction items below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ADDED: Mary Fair Spirit Day will be Wednesday. Students and Staff can wear their blue 2021 Mary Fair t-shirt with jeans or shorts on 10/6.
COVID-19 Updates
Week of September 27, 2021-
0 NEW student or staff positives
0 students or staff in quarantine
*Note: These statistics are for PS-8th Grade.
COVID Testing: The Task Force has given approval for families to use either a PCR Test or a Molecular ID Test to return from quarantine. Saint Francis offers a free drive thru clinic that yields results in 24 hours.
Grace and Understanding: This is a gentle reminder that we need to be following in our Heavenly Father's footsteps in giving people grace and understanding during these difficult times with COVID. We field so many calls a day asking for guidance to ensure everyone is doing the right thing. Yes, COVID is real and scary, however, we also have students and staff suffering from seasonal allergies, head colds, pink eye, stomach bugs and various other ailments that could present as COVID. So much is unknown so we need to unite as a community to lift each other up each day and trust that each of us are doing their best for our school.
Note: We want families to be our partners in navigating school during a pandemic. If you have COVID comfort concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. We are doing our very best to make accommodations as we can.
The School of Saint Mary Health and Wellness Plan for 2021-22 is posted below. We want to remind everyone that we review data often and we are committed to our plan being a evolving document based on trends in our area.
Reminders....
1. Guardian Sports Calendar: We now have a designated google calendar for our Guardian Sports. If you have sports schedules in K-5 that are at least 75% SOSM students, email me the schedule of games and I will add them.
Here is the link to the calendar:
After School Care
3:30-4:00 Students will be in the gym for attendance and snack.
4:00-6:00 Weather Permitting- Students will be in the Gated Playground Area. If they are not on the playground, they will be in the cafeteria.
When picking up, please find a staff member if students are outside on playground or come to gym door and ring the doorbell if students are inside.
***Preschool students will still meet in the motor school room, however pickup will be at the same spot as K-8.
Carline Updates
We are using a different system for P.M. (afternoon) carline next week due to Mary Fair. Details were emailed to all families and posted on Facebook. I have also listed the same information below and attached the map.
Our main school fundraiser is a little over a week away and the excitement is brewing around here. We got word that the tent will be put up sometime next week so we are going to use the attached adjusted carline pickup all of next week. Please review the map and share it with anyone who will be picking up next week (October 4-8, 2021).
Below are a few key points about the adjusted carline:
1. DO NOT get out of your car. Your child/ren will come to you.
2. Once you have been pulled into the loading zone, please put your car in park.
3. If you have preschool child/ren AND child/ren in K-8, they will come to you together. You DO NOT need to come inside to pick the preschooler(s).
4. If you have a kindergartener, you will need to participate in the normal carline. They WILL NOT dismiss earlier next week and you CANNOT walk up to get them.
4. PLEASE follow and respect, the enter/exit areas and the specific flow of traffic. And remember that we are all in this together!
5. You can come into the short line by the rectory but once it fills up, we will NOT load anymore cars into the area so you will need to join the mail carline.
6. If you have a preschooler(s) only, you will still park and pick up in the small lot by the basketball goals, however, you must be gone by 3:10pm at the latest.
If you are a visual learner like me, here is a video explaining the adjusted carline: (Special thanks to Reese and Lucy for being my car models and Ms. Edwards for filming)
