Counselor Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians!

My name is Eric Kendra and I am the new counselor at Fernan Elementary. I am here to support and advocate for the overall success of each student. Please feel free to call or email me at the school if you have any questions or concerns regarding the education of your child(ren). I would be happy to visit with you.

I have begun teaching groups about character traits in the different classrooms. Our character trait for September/October is: Mindfulness, or Mindful. Making careful choices and decisions is important, and being mindful about that throughout the day is important. We are currently discussing this in character lessons.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Mr. Kendra

Continuous Improvement Plan Input

Provide Feedback on the District's Goals

The Idaho State Board of Education requires each district to post goals that reflect past performance and desired growth. We'd like your input on where we should set our goals for graduation rate, student performance on standardized assessments, and college and career readiness.

Navigate to https://bit.ly/CIPInput for a 10 minute survey which shows our district's performance over multiple years and add your input on where we should place our goals for the 2022-2023 school year.

More on Fernan seeking STEM certification! 'Ask' is the first step.

STEM: Science, technology, engineering, and math, uses the engineering design process to guide students through project based learning.

'Ask' is the first step in the engineering process. Students become aware of a single driving question that they will problem solve. A question might be, "How can our life skills friends use our playground equipment?" Teaching and research come into play during this step.

Stay tuned for the next step!

Weekly STEM Activity : Borax Crystal Flowers

To make Borax crystal flowers, you will need:

Because Borax is commonly used as a detergent alternative or laundry booster, you should be able to find it in the laundry aisle of your local grocery store. Borax (also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate or disodium tetraborate) is actually a naturally occurring mineral and salt, mined from seasonal lakes.
