Reading/Daily 5
We began a new section in our unit where we will be talking about bugs! Our vocabulary words discussed so far were "nature" and "observe". We practiced writing sight words that we have learned so far as well as our word family words which are any words that end in --ap, -at, and -am. We have worked a little bit with the -an word family also. Continue to practice reading and writing small sentences at home and read lots of books together!
Math
We have been working hard on writing numbers and counting groups consisting of the numbers 13-20. We also enjoyed putting numbers 1-2 in numerical order. We first did this activity by writing numbers on white boards and then putting ourselves in order, then to make it harder we put ourselves in order without talking. It was interesting to see the alternative forms of communication that came out during that activity!
Science
In Science, we have been discussing plants and animals and the many different habitats they live in. Some live in hot or cold places, some live in hives or nests, etc. We also discussed what adaptations animals had made to be able to live in certain climates. Polar bears have thick fur and layers of blubber, or fat, to help keep them warm. Cacti live in deserts and can store water inside of themselves. They have prickles on them to keep other living things from breaking them open and drinking their water.
