Ott's Outlook
March 2023
Leadership has been a common theme the last few months district-wide as we began rolling out the leadership definition framework. Leading within our own organizations and communities is something that we all can do and it is important. But leading on a broader regional or state-wide scale is where I want to focus now.
Since January of this year, Temple ISD has hosted three showcases at the request of districts across the state. These showcases featured Blended Learning, Service-Based Learning in our CTE Department, and Structured Literacy. A showcase is an opportunity for other districts to come and see how you are implementing innovative programs that are yielding positive results. Our staff and our students model these strategies for the visiting districts and then provide an opportunity to answer questions about implementation. Temple ISD hosted 15+ school districts from across the state through these hands-on learning experiences and the feedback has been so positive that we are getting requests to host additional sessions.
I have shared with you before that I believe that it is the responsibility of our local school district to reflect the values and expectations of our community and we strive to make you proud every day. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering as it is what our students, staff, families and community deserve. But I also want you to know is this: Temple ISD’s reputation for innovation and stellar programs has traveled far beyond this region and across the state. Temple ISD is recognized as a leader in education in the state of Texas and I could not be more proud of our students and staff.
Likewise, we are blessed in Temple to have a community who trust us, support us and advocate for us. Your support truly makes a difference to our students and staff and is part of what makes Temple ISD such an amazing place.
Sincerely,
Bobby Ott

Alumni Spotlight - Johnny Lastovica '72
Billy Lastovica Class of ‘71 and Johnny Lastovica Class of ‘72 are proud Temple Wildcats who also attended Lanier, Jefferson and Lamar in Temple.
After graduation, the brothers joined the family business Lastovica Jewelers which has served the Temple area since 1950. They eventually became co-owners of the business with their wives – Helen (Billy) and Diane (Johnny).
If you have ever set foot in their store on 31st Street, you know that they treat you like family. There are highly regarded for their honesty, integrity and quality of their products and workmanship.
Billy is certified in jewelry repair and Billy is certified in both jewelry and watch repair. One of the things they are known for is being able to take the most “broken or damaged beyond repair” sentimental family heirlooms and reimagining them into a beautiful new keepsake that will last through generations to come.
Billy & Johnny – Thank you for keeping such a beautiful and specialized craft alive and for serving the Temple Community in such a profound way. We are truly honored to have you in our Alumni Spotlight!
