Mission Elementary
Riding the Wave of Excellence!
March 12, 2023
We had an eventful week both in the classroom and in preparing for classroom instruction. Professional learning for all district staff continues tomorrow and therefore it is a non-student day. We'll see you bright and early on Tuesday morning!
We believe in our students! Tuesday our 5th grade students will begin taking the state assessments. Students and staff sent encouraging messages to try their best. We will continue to encourage them as they will take Science, Math, and Language Arts assessments over the next three weeks. We ask that you also support them by ensuring students bring their Chromebooks/chargers to school, have a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. Starting their day off in a positive way helps boost their "can-do" attitude as they take their test. Please also make every effort to avoid scheduling doctor appointments during the weeks of March 14-March 31. Our 3rd and 4th grade students will begin their state tests the week of March 20. Thank you for your assistance in ensuring students are in school on time, and ready to give their best! Click here to access a parent guide for state assessments.
Did you know high school students interested in pursuing a career in education currently support some of our classrooms on a weekly basis? We partner with Oceanside High to provide experiences for these students and at the same time also provide a little extra help in some of our classrooms. Toward the end of each semester, and with the suport of the classroom teacher. the high school students teach an engaging lesson to the class they support. We thank Mission students for their eagerness in learning with our older role models. May our students return to Mission one day to also pursue a career in education.
Our Pacific Fundraiser order forms and money are due on Tuesday, March 14. We thank each student and family who supported this effort!
Duty Supervisors needed: Are you interested in becoming part of Mission's amazing staff? There is an opening for a recess duty supervisor and we'd love to have you join our staff family. If interested or if you know of anyone interested, please see the details HERE.

Community School Update
Vision to Learn
Vision to Learn will be on site on Tuesday, March 14 to distribute and fit glasses for students. A phone call and email message will be generated for parents of students receiving glasses. Students will take home a brochure with care instructions and information on how to receive replacement glasses.
Vista Community Clinic
We have a great opportunity with Vista Community Clinic for all students to receive dental services and screening. The A+ Teeth program provides visual dental assessments, fluoride varnish, sealants and referrals for treatment. The services are provided at the school site through the mobile dental unit, at no cost and is an easy way to fight cavities in young children.
If you are interested in your student receiving the service please take a moment to complete the paper consent form sent home with your child today or complete the online form at https://bit.ly/3EJbW3g by Wednesday, March 15 . You may also stop by the front office and request an application. All information is kept confidential.
Berry Good Food
We have an opportunity to partner with Berry Good Food to cultivate our existing school gardens and bring our school community together for gardening projects. We are looking for families and students interested in being part of the committee and also lend helping hands.

OUSD NEWS
OPD Traffic Support at all OUSD Schools
Starting this week, you may be seeing an increase in police presence around our schools. Oceanside Police Officers will go by schools during drop off and pick-ups to monitor traffic. They cannot be at every school daily but will rotate around the city. This will not be a mandatory enforcement detail but an observation, education, and last resort, enforcement. We want everyone to be safe, especially around our schools and we appreciate our partnership with OPD.
