Trainers from Teacher's College will be in Oakland to give a one week PD. Focusing on Reading Workshop, this training will be delivered to teams of 5 from each school. These teams will be expected to deliver a condensed version back at their sites during the Fall of 2015-16.

This training is for new teachers, or teachers who have not been trained in the basics of Balanced Literacy. Participants will get an overview of the theory and components of OUSD's Balanced Approach to Literacy, and have the tools to get Reading and Writing Workshop started in their classroom.

F & P Benchmark Assessment Training: August 13 and 14

This training will introduce new teachers to the components of the Benchmark Assessment System and train them on administering, coding, and scoring the Reading Record

Word Study in the Balanced Literacy Classroom: Week of August 17th (Exact Dates and Times TBD)

This workshop will review the best practices for the teaching of phonics, spelling and vocabulary in order to prepare teachers to plan and implement a daily word study lesson in their classroom. In addition, participants will learn to differentiate their word study within their workshop time and guided reading.

Operations & Logistics

What's that Noise?

Drilling will be on M/T after 11:30am in front of the school. The engineers are analyzing the footprint of the building to prepare for the construction project. Thanks for your patience.

Orders for Next Year

Orders are Due on 4/24 to Ms. Walker

List them by what you must have/need to start the school year, and what you don't need until after school starts in case we can't get everyone's order with this year's budget.

Attendance Audit- 4/17

Thanks to Ms. Brown-Clark who prepared many hours for our attendance audit. According to the auditors, all of our independent studies were completed PERFECTLY! Every dollar counts, thanks for all of your help!

Open House & Volunteer Reception, 5/21

Social Emotional Learning

Re-teach and Stay Positive

Spring fever may be setting in...this is a great time to re-teach your behavior expectations to keep your students on track for the last 8 weeks. Maybe set your own class goals about being responsible? Put some positive incentives in place for individual students or groups on staying respectful?

Safety First

Next Drill

Our next "surprise" drill will be an earthquake drill.

1) Drop under the desk and hold on.

2) Exit the building calmly and quietly like a fire drill and wait for directions.
