"Unlock the Treasure in Every Child" - September 30, 2019

Big picture

This week our students will be learning about the character trait of Open-Mindedness!

What does Open-Mindedness mean? You like to consider new ideas and try new things. You examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions

The character trait of Open-Mindedness falls within the parent virtue of Wisdom and Knowledge. Strengths of wisdom and knowledge are cognitive strengths related to the acquisition and use of information. Strengths comprised in this virtue are creativity, curiosity, open-mindedness, love of learning and perspective.

"The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." ~ Albert Einstein

"The mind is like a parachute, it only works when its open." ~Unknown

Please use these quotes and discuss with your child what they learn about Open-mindedness this week.

2019-2020 Matey Mini-thon!!

Parents and families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Buckhorn Creek Matey Mini-thon! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on Tuesday, 10/1. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Buckhorn Creek Matey Mini-thon, which will happen on 10/11. This year our goal is to raise $25,000 for Playground Shades, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Mindspark: Wild West! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the mindspark kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.

Donations will go toward Playground Shades and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Buckhorn Creek Matey Mini-thon. Thanks so much for your support!
