Week 1 Term 4 Panui

Monday/Rāhina - 18th October

Principal Message

Kia ora koutou Witherlea whānau,

Welcome back to Term Four which is set to explode with all types of activities and events. We have six camps; four going into the Sounds - Mistletoe Bay and two going off to Pine Valley.

We have our Athletics Day, we have Loud Shirt Day to start the term and we look forward to Alert Level 1 by the end of the term so that we can showcase all our amazing performances through; Witherlea's Got Talent, Choir, Kapa Haka, Sign Language Club and of course our Year 6 Leavers Events.

All of these events are dependent on Marlborough being at Alert Level 1.

We are currently at Alert Level 2 and still have many restrictions still in place; if parents do have to come onsite for pick up or drop off then mask-wearing is mandatory. Parents and caregivers must pick up, drop off in the open so no going into classes or cloak bays. We cannot have parents and caregivers onsite for events as we are limited to gathering numbers and our children alone exceed the 100.

Many of you would have heard the news that ALL health care and education workers must be vaccinated. This also includes any volunteers who work with children and extends to all our parents and caregivers who are going on the upcoming camps. Everyone needs their first vaccination by 15th November and both by January 2022 to be involved in any school activities. Super Saturday around New Zealand saw over 120,000 people get vaccinated and we have some great information for parents if you would like it. Contact the office and we will send it out.

We feel very positive at Witherlea, both among the staff and the Board that our community will rise to this challenge and before we know it the school will return to a new type of normal where we can safely run events and have our parents and caregivers with us. We do want to thank you all for the way that you have followed the protocols and ensured that we can be open in a safe way. We thank you for all the kind words and the way you send your children to school each day knowing we will look after them the best we can.

We have so much to look forward to on the horizon and we want to be able to share this with you.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Andrea Harnett - Tumuaki

Early Words Recognition

Congratulations to these students for completing their Early Words;

Sam B, Sophie B, Oscar H, Noah O

We are very proud of the effort towards learning that our youngest students put in as the Early Words is the start of mastery at Witherlea School.

EPro8 Finalists

Ms Green has been working with our Year 5-6 students for the whole year developing skills with our EPro8 kits that were purchased in 2020.

EPro8 stands for; Engineering, Problem Solving and Innovation. Witherlea sent three teams to the heats at Boahlly last term and one of our teams; Witherlea Titans came second and qualified for the Grand Final in Nelson on the last day of term.

This is the second time Witherlea has competed at these events and the first time qualifying for the Finals - a huge thanks to Mrs WiRepa for taking the team, Ms Green and Ms Brown for all their hard work in preparing these amazing students.
