In the Stretch Run!
We are heading into AP exams during the next two weeks. Please check the calendar below for all the various events and celebrations coming up!
Don't forget it is the "Week of the Teacher" (May 6-10) and "Classified Employees Week" (May 20-24). Thank you to those of you who have already sent in a thank you card! Our staff is so happy when they get one! Please consider writing a card of appreciation to someone who has made a difference in your son or daughter's life. Your words will mean a great deal and a gift card enclosed will even be better! If your child can write something too, all the better.
See below for articles on FFA success, River Cleanup, and athletic updates. We are especially proud to be recognized by US News and World Report as the #1 comprehensive high school in Sonoma County (see article from the Petaluma Patch below)
For Seniors and their parents: A graduation memo is going home with your student On Wednesday and will also be sent by email and posted on the website.
Prom paperwork has been distributed to students. Signed paper work is due May 10th with final day to get Prom tickets May 15th.
Have a great week and Go Trojans!
Badminton Keeps on Going!
After Petaluma High hoisted a league championship banner in badminton last week for the first time in 15 years, the athletes are still at it! Coach McKenna reports below:
"Well, we did it again. The winners of the Mixed Doubles qualifying tournament are Jacob Sullivan, Senior, and Abby Deen, Junior, of Petaluma High School, They played five matches defeating every opponent in the winner's bracket. In the final match of the night, Abby and Jacob met up with a team they had defeated earlier in the tournament. Both teams were a bit tired as the qualifying started at 3:30 and finished up at 9:30. It was a really long day but Abby and Jacob hung tough, playing amazingly tough to outlast their final opponents, 21-19, 17-21, 21-16. It was a great victory. Great job to these hard working student athletes and good luck in North Coast Section, next Saturday at Piner High School in Santa Rosa.
Our other two mixed doubles teams worked incredibly hard: Ethan Shahbazian and Miranda Grevin, both seniors won their first match but were defeated by their own teammates, Abby and Jacob, in their second match. They were then defeated in their third match with scores of 18-21, 21-15, 21-17. It was a hard fought match. Congratulations on a match that was played with fierceness and fitness. The other doubles team was Martin Burstein, Senior, and Amy Ayala, Freshman. They were defeated in both their first and second matches but showed true determination and strategy in their attempt to reach NCS.
In doubles the previous day:
Congrats to Cole Yant and Cole Stremlau took first place at the tournament. Mikie Ayala and Anton Horvath were defeated by their own teammates (Cole and Cole) to finish in second place. Great job, boys. You will represent us well at NCS which is Saturday, May 11 at Piner High School in Santa Rosa.
Congrats also to Aylin Ayla Gallardo, Amanda King, Penny Reynolds and Marissa Temple. You girls represented Petaluma well.
FFA News and State Finals!
Our Ag. Mechanics team is awesome! Matt Forney was Second high individual in his first Ag.Mechanics State Finals! Derrick Pomi was third high individual in his last state finals. There were only 4 points separating the top 5 individuals in a contest with 600 points possible. They ended up Third high team overall. We had a great year and with lots of returners for next year we have lots to look forward to! Very proud!
Our Dairy Cattle team placed 4th high in the state in Dairy Cattle Evaluation!!! Thank you for continuing to teach our students Frank Gambonini and Dominic Grossi!! The team scored in the top five in each sub contest area and had an outstanding day!

Ducks at PHS!
The PHS Facility - Under Review! (Participation Encouraged!)
Last week, we discussed the potential growth in the campus in the next few years, and the need for some additional classrooms. We also looked at the possibility of adding a "field house" near the existing gym for wrestling, as well as to take the pressure off the Multi Building. The likelihood of a stand alone Performing Arts Center is unlikely, according to the district, and the Multi stage is the likely way to enhance the drama program.
A second meeting is scheduled for May 15th at 3:30pm in the PHS Library. Please join us with your ideas and input.
