Ivan who was a guard to General Zaroff who was also in the military but from germany. While on the island Rainsford stays with General Zaroff at his house. Rainsford also learns that General Zaroff hunts anything and has animals imported to his island so he can hunt and kill them. General Zaroff reveals to Rainsford that the general will be hunting him and will hunt for 3 days. When those 3 days are up and Rainsford is still alive, he will be set free. During the hunt some of General Zaroff's dogs are killed by Rainsford and his brilliant traps. After 3 days General Zaroff gives
up and lets Rainsford free but he can not find him. When General Zaroff is about to go to bed he locks the door to his bedroom for safety but he does not know that Rainsford is in his bedroom hiding in the shadows.
