THE CAASPP IS HERE!

Our 3rd-5th grade students are finishing up CAASPP testing this week. Please be sure your children are coming to school well-rested, and have eaten a healthy breakfast. We also ask that you avoid making appointments during the testing window, and insure that your child arrives to school on time. If testing has started, a tardy student will not be able to enter the classroom until the testing is finished for the day.I encourage parents to take a look at the resources available on the California Department of Education website to help you understand what students will be doing, and how the scores will be used. You can even take a Practice Test!

Take Action in Support of Fair Funding of Public Education

Hello MDUSD Community, Parents, and Business Partners,

At a recent Board Meeting, the Board of Education issued a letter in support of full and fair funding of public education in California. We are sharing that letter (MDUSD Board of Education Letter RE Full and Fair Funding 4-22-19.pdf) with you and ask that you please reach out to your state representatives to let them know of your support to move California to the top of the nation in per pupil funding.

Many of you have asked for information on our current budget and negotiations process. Here is some information, as well as a resource we will update regularly:

Superintendent Search - Parent Input Needed!

Hello Parents and Guardians,

This is to inform you that times have been scheduled for parents/guardians to meet with consultants from Leadership Associates to provide input about the desired personal and professional qualities anticipated in the incoming superintendent. Your comments will be used in the development of the candidate profile, recruitment process, and reference checking. The consultants will also compile a summary of all comments received during these sessions and share the report with the Board and with the new superintendent.

During the meetings, consultants will share an overview of the process, and then ask two primary questions:

  • What are the desirable qualities, characteristics, background and professional and personal experiences for the next superintendent?

School Meals Information for Everyone!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: There will be no breakfast or lunch served on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 5th. If you would like your child to receive a meal that day, please contact our Food Service Manager, Lisa Glazier at westwoodcafe@mdusd.org.

At Westwood, students have the option of eating breakfast/brunch and lunch at school on a daily basis. Although your child may bring his/her own lunch, s/he may still be eating a school breakfast and/or lunch, and racking up a bill without your knowledge. If you have a negative balance, you should have received an email or phone call from our Food Services department. You may check your balance through the online meal account system Titan School Solutions. (Note: MDUSD has discontinued the use of MySchoolBucks for payments to students' meal accounts. You must sign up with Titan to continue managing your student's account. All balances were transferred in July 2018 from MySchoolBucks if you had an account with them.) You can pay for meals through your account, or drop off a check/cash in our front office. Please be aware that due to Senate Bill 250, we are not allowed to discuss account information with students and are not allowed to deny students a meal if they come through the line, despite having a negative balance. If your child qualifies for free/reduced lunch, your fees may be removed or reduced. Submit an application to see if your child is eligible!

Teacher of the Year Nominations

The Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust, which honors outstanding Contra Costa County K-12 classroom teachers, is now accepting nominations for its 2019 awards (our 28th annual event).
