Jaguar Tracks for Families
December 22, 2020
From the Desk of Mrs. Ippolito
Dear Joshua Eaton Families,
As we end 2020, we say good riddance. Wow!! what a challenge for our parents, teachers, and mostly for our children. You have to be so proud of your kids. Our teachers guide them to better education, but your kids are the ones who bring us to promise for a better future. So parents, hug your children extra tight and let them know we are all proud of them!
As a reminder, we have a full day of school on Wednesday, December 23rd with school ending at our regular time, 2:45 p.m. Winter break will begin on December 24th, and students will return to school on Monday, January 4, 2021!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!
Be well!
Mrs. Ippolito

We are in the final weeks for students to receive their flu shots. Please review the message below from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Thank you to all parents that have already vaccinated their children and submitted paperwork. We are still around 80% compliance.
Flu vaccine is mandatory for all students this year, by December 31st:
Beginning in the fall of 2020, influenza vaccine will be required for all students. Influenza vaccine is always important to receive to reduce the risk of getting sick with influenza, reduce the severity of disease if one does get sick (including the risk of hospitalization) due to influenza, as well as preventing the spread of influenza to others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza vaccine will be especially critical to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness on the population, protect vulnerable populations from severe illness, and decrease the overall burden on the healthcare system. Children must receive influenza vaccine for the current flu season by December 31, 2020.
The school immunization requirements, including the requirement for seasonal influenza vaccine, apply to all Massachusetts students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 12, regardless of whether the district is providing instruction in-person, or using a hybrid or remote learning model.
All documentation can be emailed directly to elmy.trevejo@reading.k12.ma.us or faxed to 781-942-9053.
Note: There is no vaccination exemption form. As provided on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts School Immunizations web page, medical exemptions come from the student’s doctor and document a contraindication — the reason why an individual cannot medically receive the vaccine. Religious exemptions come from the parent/guardian, and state in writing that a vaccine conflicts with his/her sincerely held religious belief.
Please reach out if you have any concerns,
Best always,
Mrs. Trevejo

Reading celebrates the message and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Every year, Reading celebrates the message and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, during this unprecedented time of a pandemic, we've already started planning for an event themed 'Beloved Community' that is both inspiring, engaging, and can be delivered 100% remotely. Dr. King popularized the notion of the beloved community. He defined it as a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings. There were many before him who fought for the rights of those who were not treated equally.
How can your group help us educate and celebrate his message? How can everyone here in Reading internalize the message as a unified beloved community? We are looking for 3-5 minute pre-recordings that exemplify 'Beloved Community'. Could you create a song? A poem? A reading? An original interpretation or storytelling? All of these are welcome!
Please email your content to the Human Rights Advisory Council by January 5, 2021.
