Getting back in the groove!

Math - Fact Power and Money

Students finished Unit 4 this week and took their unit assessment. They have now moved on to Unit 5, which opened with a lesson on Fact Power. Fact Power is knowing math facts automatically, and is an important skill to work on building as math becomes more challenging. Ask your children how they are working on their Fact Power! Students are also learning more about money. They have been working hard at counting change, so if you have some spare change sitting around, ask your child to count it for you!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Assembly

On Thursday, STEAM held the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assembly. The 6th grade band and a few 6th grade singers performed songs that paid tribute to Dr. King. Our class joined them as presenters by acting out the book The Crayon Box That Talked. Students did an amazing job performing in front of the entire school, and it was clear that they took the message of the book to heart. This performance tied in nicely with our social studies "Community Helpers" unit since the students were indeed community helpers on Thursday as they both entertained and educated the school about the importance of diversity.

A Note From Miss Besemer

Winter Weather is Here

According to AAPS unsafe winter weather policy, students go outside for lunch recess every day unless the temperature and/or wind chill are below 0 F.
Please consider the following in an effort to keep our room clean and your child dry:
  • Send a pair of inside shoes daily. If you would prefer, students may leave a pair of indoor shoes at school.
  • Send boots, snow pants, hat, scarves & gloves.
  • Keeping a dry change of clothes in backpacks.
  • Send a non-marking pair of gym shoes to be kept in the class for gym class.

Changes in Student Dismissal

If your child is going to be getting home in any way that is different from their normal routine, please inform the classroom as early as possible. If an email with this information is sent after lunch, please also call the office to make sure the message is received before dismissal.
