Kindergarten Newsletter

Week Of May 14th

Highlights from last week....

Happy Mother's Day!!! We hope you had a great day!

We are just a bunch of worker bees in kindergarten!

We began to familiarize ourselves with our new reading program. This week our focus was on how animals are alike and different. We read an informational text called "Zooborns" and answered questions about the text. We learned some new vocabulary words: appearance, behavior, wander, plenty and exercise. We reviewed the letter U and the sight words for and have. Our focus in writing was how to respond to text using a prompt. This was a tricky concept for us, but we continued to practice and were able to grasp it by the end of the week.

In Math, we finished worked on counting to 100 by tens and ones and practiced correct number formation.

In Science, we worked our Taking Card of the Earth unit. The kids love learning about ways to help the Earth; reduce, reuse and recycle.

A peek at our learning this week....

Our focus this week will be how to take care of a pet. We will read stories relating to this topic and answer questions relating to the text.

In Math, we will finish our unit on teen numbers.

In Science, we will continue our unit on taking care of the Earth.

THANK YOU

Thank you for thinking of us during TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK, it was really thoughtful and generous of you!

Permission slips with the trip details went home today. Please review and sign them as soon as possible even if you do not want your child to go. The trip will NOT cost the families anything because of grants and fundraising. At this point, we are all set with chaperones, however, if that changes, we will be in contact with you. I will be sending home the words for all of the nursery rhymes that our class will be reciting at the kindergarten play! The kids are really getting excited about it!!

**This past week, we’ve had many children with loose change for ice cream money and no pockets to keep it in. If you could, please send the money in a labeled bag or envelope please!

Notes from Mrs. Maillet

We are working really hard in our classroom with self control, and learning what it looks like and sounds like to be a first grader. We are practicing self checking our work to correct numbers that may have been written backwards, and using uppercase and lowercase letters where expected in words and sentences.

We finished our classroom book and sent it out to the publishing company. We are expecting them to be delivered in early June. The Kindergarten teachers are working on a date and time to come together for an end of the year celebration. At this time, you will also receive your book.

Hoping all you Mom's enjoyed you gift from your child. They worked very hard on their special Mother's Day gift for you! It was so cute to hear their answers to all the questions! They love you so very much!!!
