The Mustang Round Up
April 16, 2023
Congratulations Mrs. Rick!
Good Evening Mustang Families,
I'm excited to share with our families that one of our Mustang teachers has been recognized as a finalist for the San Diego County Teacher of the Year. Own very own Julie Rick was selected as teacher of the year at Marshall this Spring and was recognized as one of the top two middle school teachers in all of San Diego Unified School District, the second-largest district in California.
Mrs. Rick started teaching in 1998 at Dingeman Elementary. She began with Kindergarten for a year, then moved to 4th grade, and finally 6th grade. In 2004, she made the transition to middle school when principal Rick Novak recruited her to come to Marshall. Since then, Mrs. Rick has been changing lives teaching 6th-grade Math, leading the Philanthropists Club, and chaperoning the East Coast Trip. What many people don't know is that Mrs. Rick started her teaching career by staying home and raising her children for 10 years. She volunteered at her kid's school and made the transition to a full-time teacher, bringing the love and passion she had for her own children to Scripps. This year, Mrs. Rick was a catalyst to bring the 6th-grade camp back to Marshall. Embodying the wisdom of previous mentors, Mrs. Rick believes, "Each student is someone’s child. They are loved and you must treat them as you would your own."
On May 9th, Julie Rick will be joining the other Teachers of the Year from SDUSD in elementary and high school. Please join me in celebrating one of the best in our profession, Mrs. Julie Rick!
Have a great week!

Registration for the 4 bus routes to Marshall Middle School opens on 4/7/23 and will close at 11:59 p.m. 4/30/23. ALL prospective riders MUST submit a new registration each year as we can not assume that current riders wish to continue bus service next year. The Google form will be made available via our website srbuscommittee.blogspot.com at that time or you can register using this link. There are 2 routes that pickup/dropoff at Dingeman Elementary, 1 route at EBS Elementary, and 1 route off of Swan Lake in the Scripps Highlands neighborhood. Details on specific pickup and drop-off times are also found on our website. Each route has 60 seats (240 seats total), and there is always a large number of families wanting to use the bus service, so we will hold a lottery on 5/18/23 via Zoom.
