What should we do with $150?
Our family had an interesting discussion about how we should spend the money that we won from Sweet Creek. They narrowed it down to two possibilities;
1. Get a new hamster
or
2. buy toys for children.
This was a great opportunity for "opinion writing." Learners had to give their opinion and support it. We had some learners that felt very strongly both ways. We learned how to use a planning piece to organize their thinking. The expectation includes: A statement of the opinion, reasons to support the opinion, and a conclusion. This was our first try at this kind of writing and our learners were up for the challenge.
I was truly blessed when this discussion went home with learners. One sweet learner has suggested that his family purchase a hamster for our class, freeing up our winnings for toys. They have joyfully volunteered to do that for us. Therefore, I am working on scheduling a quick trip to Walmart for our learners to purchase toys. It might be quick turnover, but I will send out an email with more firm details as soon as I know. I will need a few volunteers that can meet us to help. Also, I have contacted the local Toys for Tots representative and he is happy to come to school and talk with the kids and pick up the toys.
This is the Pike Road Way!

The 3 rooms
- Level Up-There are 18 books on your child's level. When they have listened, read, and taken the quiz, your child will move up a level.
- Reading Room-Many different options of reading; leveled books, decodable books, favorite characters, high-frequency words, nursery rhymes and more
- My Assignment-Please stay away from this room. This is where I assign books to groups so that I may work with them. If they read the book, it disappears.
