Tips for 1:1 iPad Integration - September 17, 2014
Chapman Chiefs are Movie Stars!!
Speaking of 7ignites.com, don't forget that this is a great resource for all things technology related!
An App and a Snack
Next Tuesday will be a teacher's choice week. Please email me with suggestions of apps (or other topics) you would like to learn more about. I will collect responses through Friday and then announce the winning app on Monday!
A big thanks goes out to all of the teachers who came and joined me this week! Thanks Mr. Neely, Mrs. Caudle, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Wells, Mrs. Rigsby, Mrs. Karban, and Ms. Hudgens! We'd love for the rest of you to join us next week!
Want to Join in the Fun & Learning?
The scarecrows need to be delivered to the fair on October 4 or 5. I will be happy to make a delivery of one scarecrow from each grade level. If more than one class on each grade level makes one, I will get together a group of judges to pick a winner for each. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to teach your students what STEM is and to show off our Chapman Chiefs outside of the building.
Stay tuned next week for more STEM resources to help get you started. And now, for the prize this week. The first 3 people to email me about the STEM scarecrow may come and plunder my STEM materials closet for items to start building you scarecrows!
Also, a HUGE thanks to Mrs. Horton for offering to serve on the STEM planning group - no one else has offered yet :(
Tech Integration Updates
Some of you were at An App & A Snack when I shared Edmodo's new Snapshot tool. I am hearing from other educators that there are LOTS of glitches in using this on the iPad app, so let's hold off for now. I will let you know as soon as there is an update to help solve the problems!
And speaking of Edmodo, please let me know if I can help you get started using it this year. A big shout out goes to Mrs. Miller - her kindergartners will turn in their first Edmodo assignments tomorrow!
Interactive Graphic Organizers
To use them on the iPad, simply have students click on the organizer they want to use, click the share icon, and hit Open in... and then Subtext. The students can type on the organizer while it is in Subtext. When they finish, simply have them take a screenshot to save it.
If you use these often, you might want to have the kids add the link to their home screen for easier access. As always, let me know if I can be of assistance with this.
Digital Citizenship Lessons
If you have not let me know about lessons you have already taught, please do. If you have not taught any lessons yet, you really need to get those scheduled in the next week. Let me know if I can help!
Remember that it is my goal for all of you to be certified digital citizenship educators by Common Sense Media by the end of this year. If you let me know when you teach the lessons, I will know when you are ready to apply for this certification!
