Just a friendly reminder that we have a scheduled LATE START this coming Tuesday, December 5th. The warning bell rings at 9:40 am, and all students are expected to be in their classrooms by 9:45 am. Also, please note that students are only allowed THREE excused tardies to school for the entire school year. After the third excused tardy, Marian Central reserves the right to issue progressive detentions to any students arriving late to school. It's crucial to student-success to be fully present in class!

Conversations that Matter: Raising Resilient Teens

This quarter's topic centered on strategies to help our students cope with stress and anxiety. It was a wonderful evening (Nov. 30th), and our guest speakers Rev. Carl Beekman (Sts. Peter and Paul) and Jackie Rhew MA, CADC, LCPC (AMITA Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and co-owner of the Center for Emotional Wellness of the Northwest Suburbs) brought such keen insight that provided immediate applications in our parenting.

Thank you to all who attended this worthwhile event! We even received a few parents who had suggested we bring this topic to the elementary schools, as anxiety is affecting younger and younger students. We also all agreed that we needed access to the powerpoint Mrs. Rhew created for her speaking points. Click here to view Purposeful Parenting, which includes the Emotional Development Scale, detailing emotional growth from 2 - 18.

Rev. Carl Beekman shared his warm insights and encouragement as he continues to minister to families in the grips of stress and anxiety. Just as we can hurry about our stressful day without noticing the sun, we too can journey through the trials of life without inviting the Son to guide us. Rev. Beekman encouraged us all to seek guidance from our Father as we guide our own children.

Stay tuned for our 3rd Quarter Conversations that Matter! We will announce the date and topic soon!

Underclassmen Portrait Retakes - November 7th!

Not thrilled with your photo? Now's your chance to (re)capture the moment! Linked here, please find the Portrait Retake Form, which explains the retake process. Retakes will take place in the Gym Commons during all lunch periods on Thursday, November 7th.

Annual Christmas Drive Starts December 4th in all 1st Hour Classes!

Our Annual Christmas Drive will be starting on Monday, December 4th, 2017! This is a wonderful time of year where the whole student body of Marian Central gives back to those less fortunate in our community, and our students love getting to play "Santa." Each first-hour class has adopted a family that they will be providing gifts for this holiday season. Please encourage your students to give back this holiday season by providing money to the family by December 11th. Student Council Officers will purchase the gifts and bring them back to the classes to wrap on December 13th to be delivered to our Parishes. It is a great way for our students to show support and kindness to those who may not be able to provide during the season of giving.

Attention Seniors Applying to Colleges/Universities with Jan 1st - Jan 8th Deadlines!

The Guidance Office will be closed during Christmas Break. If you are planning on applying to any colleges/universities with January 1st-January 8th deadlines, please turn in your transcript/counselor recommendation requests by Friday, December 15 to give the counselors time to process those requests. Also, please understand that you do not have to have your portion of the college application completed prior to turning in the transcript/counselor recommendation requests to guidance. If you have any questions, please stop by the guidance office. Thank you!

Tickets for this event are $22 each - but because we feel SO STRONGLY in the importance of Chris's message of taking the beauty and genius of the gospel and applying it to one's every day life, Marian Central is underwriting a portion of the ticket price for ALL Marian students! The price for any Marian Central student is now only $10.00! Tickets are available for purchase in the Guidance Office - so come get yours today and join us on January 24th for this life-changing event in Landers Pavilion!
