THE SECOND STEP SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM K-8
As you know, last week we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our school-wide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step.

6th Grade Parents Night at RMS- 2/23 at 6:00PM
Richards Middle School would like to invite you and your 6th-grade child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, the programs offered, and the selective classes available to them. We will also provide our students with a tour of our building’s selective classrooms.
The program will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents are to report to the RMS gym, where they will meet the administrators, counselors, and academic department heads. Students will gather in the cafeteria, where their tour will begin.
Our goal is to provide you and your child with a good understanding of our vision and mission at Richards Middle School.
Our RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February 27th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, March 1st to assist students in filling out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade teacher no later than March 5th, at which point counselors will again help students with inputting the course requests.
Weekly Character Club Awards
Throughout the year, we will be honoring our students with Character Club Awards. Teachers are already working to determine students that exemplify all of the different character strengths for the whole year. Each week, we will be distributing Character Awards to some of our students. At the end of each month, student award recipients will have a Character Club lunch together to celebrate our positive character!
Below are the winners for this week's Character Trait.
