Computer Reminder from Hanawalt
If you are having issues with your school issued device, please contact Mr. Surprenant. His email is: scot.surprenant@dmschools.org or by phone at 515-242-8411. If you have any questions about the device itself or how to use some of the district’s websites like Teams or Canvas use the link here for the Student Device Guide provided by the district. On page 11 of the document, you will find a guide on how to keep your device clean, as many have come back to school with food and sticky stuff on the keys and screen. These devices are checked out and loaned out to your student from the school district. This means you are responsible for taking care of the device as well as the power cord that comes with the computer. Again, if you have any questions, please contact Mr. Surprenant.

Advocate for Public Schools!
Governor Reynolds announced this week that she would be promoting choice options as part of the in-person education bill. You may want your student to return to school 100% of the time and we understand that!
However, supporting this will limit funding for our schools and put funding towards charter schools and private schools. This will damage our already underfunded schools! We know from experience in Des Moines, how charter schools have led to fraud and don’t uphold public school standards.
Here's another example on how poorly-planned Charter schools can impact public schools: https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2019/09/03/how-big-mess-is-pennsylvanias-charter-school-sector-this-big/
Please email, write and call your representative and let them know not to support the in-person education bill and fund our public schools! Find your representative here: https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/find

General News
The PTA is always looking for new ideas to support building community and fundraising. If you have ideas of ways to build our community or fundraise (particularly during a pandemic) please contact us at HanawaltElementaryPTA@gmail.com. We would love to hear your ideas!
Would you like to collaborate and get to know more teachers and staff? We would like that too! If you’re interest in connecting with the PTA and have not volunteered before, please reach out, we would love to hear from you!
Support Your Teacher
Our role as a PTA is supporting teachers and school staff. Hanawalt teachers, cafeteria workers, administration and staff are all risking their health and working hard to support our children! Ways to show your support could include:
· Write a thank you card
· Have your child draw a picture and mail it to your teacher, school support staff, cafeteria workers, and custodians
· Ask your teacher and school administration what they need for support
· Call, email, or text them your support
