Talon Camp - The Virtual Edition Part 1

6th Grade Orietation

Due to Covid - 19 we are not able to have our 3rd annual Talon Camp, but we do want to ensure that you and your child feel prepared to come to the ROMS - 6 Grade Campus. We are working on several things that will help make your transition to ROMS 6 GC as smooth as possible. We want to make sure that we are meeting your needs as much as we can, please take a moment to fill out the following questionnaire.

Your 6th Grade Journey Begins Here

As part of our orientation process this year, starting with this edition of the Hawk Haller we will:

  • Give you a basic overview of the 6th grade center
  • Begin to introduce to you your new family

  1. Please understand that we will be following our district and school plan when it comes to Social Distancing and safety precautions. Descriptions in this orientation reflect normal procedures.

Learning Commons

Students go to the Learning Commons (Library) every two weeks during their ELAR class.

There are no lockers in the middle school at either campus. Students will carry their supplies to each class. Some things to know:

  • If a class uses a textbook it stays in class. Students have access to their textbooks online for home use.
  • Band students will be given a storage area in the gym that they can store their instruments when they are not in band.
  • Teachers keep a lot of the "extra supplies" in their room.

  • Students eat during 4th period
  • Students who have A lunch will take there belongings to fourth period and and then their teacher will walk them to lunch.
  • B lunch goes to class for about 15 minutes and then comes to lunch and after lunch returns to finish class.
  • C lunch goes to class for 35 minutes and then return to finish class.
  • D lunch goes to class the entire period and then goes to lunch. They leave the cafe and go straight to 5th period.
  • If a student has 4th period at the main campus they will eat at the main campus.

Passing Periods

  • Students have five minutes to get to their next class before being counted tardy.
  • Band, Choir, Some Technology and Theater are taught in the main campus building. If students are going to or coming from main campus when the first bell rings they leave to head to the other campus. When the second bell rings the others students then have three minutes to get to class. If students are walking to class and not playing around this provides them plenty of time.
